Job Summary – Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Design & Calculations
- System Design: Prepare and develop mechanical engineering designs for Air Conditioning (MVAC), Fire Services (sprinklers, hydrants, detection), and Hydraulic Systems (cold water, sewerage, drainage and rain water harvesting).
- Engineering Analysis: Perform critical engineering calculations, including heat load analysis, ventilation requirements, pipe sizing, duct sizing, air and water pressure losses calculations, ensuring all systems meet project performance and efficiency standards.
- Metro Specialization: Assist in the design of specialized mechanical systems for underground environments, such as tunnel ventilation, smoke control, and station drainage systems.
- Drawing Production: Review and/or prepare detailed drawings, schematics, and 3D models (BIM/Revit) to ensure accuracy and coordination with structural and electrical layouts.
- Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to local Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL), Australian Standards (AS/NZS), and project-specific technical requirements.
2. Tender & Project Support
- Estimation: Support the preparation of accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and technical specifications for tender submissions.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities to reduce costs or improve efficiency through optimized material selection and simplified mechanical layouts.
- Procurement Support: Assist in the technical evaluation of equipment vendors and subcontractors to ensure mechanical components meet quality and performance standards.
- On-site Coordination: Collaborate with the construction team to resolve Technical Queries (TQ) and ensure the design is implementable under site conditions.
3. Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Interdisciplinary Liaison: Actively participate in design coordination meetings to resolve "clashes" between mechanical services and other disciplines like structural beams or electrical cable trays.
- Consultant Review: Assist the Mechanical Services Manager in reviewing consultant submissions, ensuring they meet the required level of detail and quality.
T&C Support
Assist in the development of Testing & Commissioning (T&C) procedures for mechanical systems to ensure a smooth transition to the operations phase.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Competency in AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), and mechanical modeling software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Bluebeam).
Skills & Abilities
- Prior involvement in Metro, Rail, or major infrastructure projects is a significant advantage.
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Expected Minimum Years of Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in building services design or construction.
