Job summary

Career Wise is seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer for a 12-month contract in Malaysia. The role focuses on embedded C programming, bare-metal development, RTOS concepts, and MCU security.

You will work with ARM Cortex and RISC-V microcontrollers, develop peripheral drivers, and participate in unit/integration testing. The candidate should have strong debugging skills (JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and be familiar with CI/CD and Git workflows.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of firmware engineering experience.
• Proficient in Embedded C programming.
• Knowledge of ARM Cortex and RISC-V microcontroller architectures.
• Experience with unit and integration testing.
• Proficient with JTAG/SWD debugging tools, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and Git workflows.
• Desirable: experience with power-converter modelling or HIL testing.

Responsibilities

• Embedded C programming and bare-metal development including startup code, linker scripts, and ISR design.
• RTOS concepts: tasks/threads, scheduling, mutexes/semaphores, queues, timers.
• Develop software for ARM Cortex and RISC-V MCUs.
• Peripheral driver development: GPIO, Timer, PWM, ADC, I2C, SPI, UART.
• Secure boot, cryptography, OTA updates for MCU security.
• Conduct unit and integration tests.
• Use JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers for debugging.
• CI/CD and Git development workflows.

Firmware Engineering role requiring 5-8 years' experience on a 12-month contract basis.

Key responsibilities

Embedded C programming and bare-metal programming including startup code, linker script basics, and ISR design

RTOS concept implementation: tasks/threads, scheduling, mutex/semaphore, queues, timers

Microcontroller architecture work with ARM Cortex and RISC-V

Peripheral usage and driver development: GPIO, Timer, PWM, ADC, I2C, SPI, and UART

Microcontroller security implementation: secure boot, cryptography, keys, and Over-the-Air (OTA) updates

Conducting unit and integration tests

Proficiency with JTAG/SWD, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers

CI/CD and Git development workflow familiarity

About you

5-8 years' experience in firmware engineering

Embedded C programming expertise

Knowledge of ARM Cortex and RISC-V microcontroller architecture

Experience with unit and integration testing and unit test tools

Proficiency with JTAG/SWD debugging tools, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers

Familiarity with CI/CD and Git development workflows

Desirable: Knowledge of DC-DC power converter topologies and digital controller design

Desirable: Modeling and simulation of power converters using MATLAB/Simulink or PLECS

Desirable: Real-time simulation and verification using Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL)
