Job summary

Boschgroup in Penang, Bayan Lepas, is seeking an experienced Electronic Design Engineer to contribute to category C/D projects. You will work as part of a project team to design, validate, and optimize electronic hardware that meets our product specifications.

You will prepare circuit diagrams, maintain BOMs, and develop design inputs, test plans, and quality improvements. A plus is knowledge of automotive standards such as IATF 16949 and ISO 26262.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in electronic product design and development.
• Experience in schematic design, circuit development, and component selection.
• Familiar with FMEA, DFMA, 8D, and Six Sigma.
• Experience in product validation, troubleshooting, and design improvements.
• Good project management and cross-functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of automotive standards (IATF 16949, ISO 26262) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate as project team member for category C/D projects on electronic design matters; guide to ensure quality outcomes.
• Prepares circuit diagram for HW design to meet product specifications.
• Prepare, update and maintain product design electronic specification and BOM for category C/D projects.
• Establish a Work-Breakdown-Structure (WBS) on electronic design and development for project category C/D.
• Evaluate electronic device design and identify improvements in cost, quality and performance.
• Evaluate and recommend electronic components for new product design with medium innovation.
• Interact and provide support for sample builds, troubleshooting and issue solving.
• Prepare input for PAV; electrical validation test (FEP); EMC test plan for medium complexity products.
• Interact as change engineer for electronic components replacement due to EOL requiring design updates.
• Review customer specs on electronic design feasibility, proposed alternatives, deviations, and concepts for medium complexity products.
• Estimate engineering effort including manhours, material, travelling, test and validation.
• Provide guidance on norms and standards in automotive industry (CDQ, TS16949, ISO26262).
• Plan and coordinate continuous improvement activities to enhance team performance.
• Participate in technical forums to stay updated on latest electronics developments.
• Any other duties as assigned to accomplish related results.

Job description

1. Collaborate as project team member for category C/D projects on electronic design matters, identify issues; provide appropriate guidance and advice to ensure delivery of quality outcomes.
2. Prepares circuit diagram for the realization of HW design in meeting product specification (internally/and externally) for category C/D projects.
3. Prepare, update and maintain product design electronic specification, bill of material (BOM) for category C/D projects.
4. Establish a Work-Breakdown-Structure (WBS) on electronic design and development for project category C/D.
5. Evaluate electronic device design and identify potential areas of improvement in terms of cost, quality and performance for medium complexity products.
6. Evaluate and recommend electronic components for application in new product design with medium innovation.
7. Interact and provide support for projects sample built, troubleshooting and issues solving for category C/D projects.
8. Prepare input for creation of product manufacturing test instructions (PAV); electrical validation test (FEP); EMC test plan for medium complexity products.
9. Interact as change engineer for electronic components replacement due to parts end-of-life (EOL) that require medium design update.
10. Evaluate and review customer technical specifications on electronic design feasibility, proposed alternative solution; deviation list; and concept presentation for medium complexity products.
11. Estimate and provide engineering effort requires for electronic design and development including manhour, material, travelling, test and validation with minor derivative projects.
12. Provide guidance, advice and mentoring on norms and standards established in automotive industry internally and externally. Eg. CDQ, TS16949, ISO26262.
13. Plan and coordinate continuous improvement process activities to enhance and strengthen team.
14. Participate in technical forum exhibition to regularly keep up to date in latest technological development of electronics devices.
15. Any other duties as assigned from time to time to accomplish related results as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in electronic product design and development.
• Experience in schematic design, circuit development, and electronic component selection.
• Familiar with engineering methodologies and problem-solving tools such as FMEA, DFMA, 8D, and Six Sigma.
• Experience in product validation, troubleshooting, and design improvement activities.
• Good project management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of automotive standards and development processes (e.g., IATF 16949, ISO 26262) will be an added advantage.
