Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer (Chargeman B0 33kV)

The primary role and responsibility of the Senior Electrical Engineer is to oversee operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of 33kV high-voltage systems and other electrical systems. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for operating and troubleshooting complex equipment and systems to identify and resolve functional deficiencies. This work requires extensive knowledge and must be accomplished with appropriate competency and safety consciousness. Other functions include preventive and predictive procedures, modifying, testing, measuring, assembling, improving, and installing utilities and related equipment. Maintenance duties include operating, repairing, refurbishing, adjusting, and calibrating equipment across categories such as compressed air, chilled water, treated water, wastewater, refrigeration, and HVAC. It is expected that the Senior Electrical Engineer develops and maintains proficiency on a diverse group of equipment supporting manufacturing processes. The role also involves maintaining records, preparing reports, handling emergencies, managing shutdowns, and coordinating with stakeholders to align maintenance and improvement activities with business needs, while prioritizing safety and compliance. The Senior Electrical Engineer will demonstrate Hershey Values of customer service, teamwork, and cooperation with all trades, production, and support personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and perform operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and switching of 33kV high voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Carry out switching work for HT feeders for service and maintenance.
  • Ensure reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing predictive/preventive maintenance on compressors, motors, pneumatic actuators, process systems, and equipment.
  • Lead and supervise a team of chargeman and electrical technicians in daily operations, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior chargeman and technicians.
  • Operate, install, maintain, and troubleshoot AC/DC motors and control circuits.
  • Operate, modify, align, maintain, and troubleshoot compressors, chillers, air handlers, HVAC, refrigeration systems, cooling towers, and heating systems.
  • Ensure electrical systems and equipment comply with Energy Commission regulations and standards and the Electricity Supply Act.
  • Lead development and execution of electrical system upgrades, capacity expansion, and Continuous Improvement (CI) projects, including developing business cases and documentation for project approval.
  • Develop cost-saving calculations for CI projects and update results periodically in CI trackers.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
  • Maintain detailed records of electrical inspections, maintenance activities, and incidents.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and compliance status.
  • Respond promptly to electrical failures, power outages, and emergencies to minimize downtime.
  • Lead annual plant electrical shutdown activities and liaise with utility providers or external contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate communication between utility departments and stakeholders for maintenance, repairs, and improvements to meet business needs.
  • Manage ESG initiatives related to the department, including reporting.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as required based on business needs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Chargeman B0 (33kV) certificate of competency is mandatory.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10 to 15 years of hands-on maintenance experience with plant utility systems.
