Develops new technology, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. Independently, or as a member of a team, develops, directs, and executes plans for a major segment of complex projects. Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop product requirements
- Design, develop, debug, modify, and test electrical, software, and imaging design solutions using current tools, analysis techniques, and technologies
- Review electrical, mechanical, and optical designs and changes to ensure development of appropriate test methods
- Define strategy and perform product design and testing that complies with electrical safety standards and medical device regulations
- Develop and execute test methods and fixtures for design verification
- Define and execute test plans to support design verification
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Optical Engineers to develop opto-electromechanical test methods
- Provide electronic and system-level troubleshooting of prototype devices to aid product development
- Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems related to design, material, or process as a hands-on Engineer
- Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality or to assess existing technologies
- Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations
- Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from complex test results
- Prepare detailed reports and communicate results to diverse audiences
- Ensure proper engineering documentation
- Build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional partners to meet stakeholder needs
- Identify and establish relationships with external device manufacturers
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields (computer, software, systems)
- Minimum of 8 years in product development
- Proficient in electrical engineering principles
- Deep knowledge of design verification within a regulated industry
- Experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum/signal/logic analyzers
- Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Experience with Design Controls or equivalent in the Medical Device Industry
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards (IEC 60601-1), HF (IEC 60601-2-2), and EMI/EMC (60601-1-2)
- Willingness to travel 10-20%, including internationally
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
- Clinical and technical expertise in imaging-based medical devices
- Proficiency with optical and/or bioinstrumentation principles
