Develops new technology, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. Independently, or as a member of a team, develops, directs, and executes plans for a major segment of complex projects. Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop product requirements
  2. Design, develop, debug, modify, and test electrical, software, and imaging design solutions using current tools, analysis techniques, and technologies
  3. Review electrical, mechanical, and optical designs and changes to ensure development of appropriate test methods
  4. Define strategy and perform product design and testing that complies with electrical safety standards and medical device regulations
  5. Develop and execute test methods and fixtures for design verification
  6. Define and execute test plans to support design verification
  7. Collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Optical Engineers to develop opto-electromechanical test methods
  8. Provide electronic and system-level troubleshooting of prototype devices to aid product development
  9. Perform troubleshooting on new products/process problems related to design, material, or process as a hands-on Engineer
  10. Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality or to assess existing technologies
  11. Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations
  12. Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from complex test results
  13. Prepare detailed reports and communicate results to diverse audiences
  14. Ensure proper engineering documentation
  15. Build relationships and collaborate with cross-functional partners to meet stakeholder needs
  16. Identify and establish relationships with external device manufacturers

Job Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields (computer, software, systems)
  2. Minimum of 8 years in product development
  3. Proficient in electrical engineering principles
  4. Deep knowledge of design verification within a regulated industry
  5. Experience with lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum/signal/logic analyzers
  6. Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal
  7. Experience with Design Controls or equivalent in the Medical Device Industry
  8. Knowledge of electrical safety standards (IEC 60601-1), HF (IEC 60601-2-2), and EMI/EMC (60601-1-2)
  9. Willingness to travel 10-20%, including internationally

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s or Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
  2. Clinical and technical expertise in imaging-based medical devices
  3. Proficiency with optical and/or bioinstrumentation principles
