Job summary

NEXT Ventures is seeking a Senior Design Systems Designer to own and scale the design system across our web and mobile products. You’ll build components, tokens, patterns, and documentation, from ground up, uniting design and engineering with strong ownership.

Based on-site in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur, you’ll mentor designers, drive adoption, establish governance and WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards, and partner with product teams to deliver consistent experiences.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of product design experience with design systems expertise.
• Portfolio with design systems, component libraries, token architectures, and measurable adoption.
• Expert-level Figma skills across components, variants, auto-layout, variables, and tokens.
• Experience documenting in Markdown (.md) and using AI tools to accelerate workflows.
• Strong typography, colour theory, spacing, responsive design, and WCAG 2.2 accessibility.
• Experience building systems from scratch and improving existing products.
• Self-starter with track record of 0→1 initiatives and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Able to relocate and work on-site in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Your Role in Our Mission

As a Senior Design Systems Designer, you’ll own and scale the design system that powers our entire product ecosystem. This is a senior individual‑contributor role for someone who can build a design system from the ground up, establish scalable foundations, and drive adoption across design and engineering teams. You’ll work at the intersection of design and engineering, creating the components, tokens, patterns, and documentation that enable teams to deliver consistent, high‑quality experiences across web and mobile. You’ll also mentor junior designers and contribute to priority product design initiatives when needed. This is a hands‑on role with significant ownership, where you’ll shape our design systems practice from day one. This role is based on‑site in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur, with relocation required and visa sponsorship provided.

How You’ll Make An Impact

Design System Architecture & Ownership

• Build and evolve the design system end to end, including components, patterns, multi-tier design tokens, guidelines, and documentation.
• Establish scalable design foundations that support consistency across web and mobile platforms.
• Audit existing products to identify inconsistencies, establish baseline components, and create a roadmap for systematic improvement.

Design Tokens & Design-to-Code Integration

• Architect and maintain a design token pipeline using tools such as Tokens Studio or Style Dictionary.
• Enable theming, dark mode, and design-to-code consistency across platforms.
• Partner closely with engineers to improve design-to-code fidelity, handoff processes, and reusable component libraries using tools such as Storybook and Zeroheight.

Documentation & AI-Assisted Workflows

• Create and maintain clear, practical design documentation, including component usage guidelines, specifications, and decision notes in Markdown (.md) files.
• Leverage AI tools such as Google Stitch, ChatGPT, and Claude to accelerate component creation, documentation, and iteration.
• Integrate AI-assisted design-to-code workflows and prompt-driven generation into everyday design operations to improve speed and efficiency.

Governance, Accessibility & Quality Standards

• Establish design system governance, contribution guidelines, and workflows that balance quality control with team autonomy.
• Define accessibility standards aligned with WCAG 2.2, alongside responsive design patterns and reusable components.
• Maintain design quality, consistency, and scalability across products while continuously identifying opportunities for improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Adoption

• Collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure the design system meets business and technical needs.
• Drive adoption through workshops, office hours, and enablement sessions, gathering feedback to continuously improve the system.
• Measure impact through adoption rates, efficiency gains, and improvements in design consistency.

Product Design & Team Development

• Apply the design system to priority product features when additional product design support is required.
• Mentor junior designers, share best practices, and elevate design craft and systems thinking across the team.
• Take ownership of initiatives from concept to implementation, working independently while aligning with cross-functional teams.

What You Bring

• 6–10 years of product design experience, with deep, demonstrable expertise in design systems, component libraries, or design operations.
• A strong portfolio showcasing design systems built from the ground up, including component libraries, token architectures, documentation, and measurable adoption and impact.
• Expert-level Figma skills across components, variants, auto-layout, variables, and design tokens.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation in Markdown (.md) files, with the ability to leverage AI tools such as Google Stitch, ChatGPT, and Claude to accelerate design and documentation workflows.
• Strong understanding of design fundamentals, including typography, colour theory, spacing systems, responsive design, and accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.2.
• Experience working across both greenfield environments, building systems from scratch, and brownfield environments, improving and systematising existing products.
• Strong systems thinking and the ability to balance design quality, scalability, and practical trade-offs.
• A self-starter mindset with a proven track record of building practices from 0 to 1 without heavy oversight.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with designers and engineers and advocate for design system adoption.
• Willingness to relocate to and work on‑site in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Bonus Points If You Have

• Front-end development skills in HTML, CSS, or React, enabling close collaboration with engineering teams.
• Experience in fintech, proprietary trading, brokerages, SaaS, or complex, data-rich products.
• Familiarity with design system enablement tools such as Tailwind, Storybook, or Zeroheight.
