Senior Design for Excellence (DFX) Engineer
The NPI DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) Engineer at Motorola Solutions is a lead role focused on optimizing new products for efficient and cost-effective production. This is more than just a design review position; it's a strategic role that drives quality and productivity improvements from the very beginning of the product lifecycle. The successful candidate will be the bridge between design, manufacturing, and supply chain, ensuring that products are not only functional but also easy to build, with the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost.
Responsibilities
- Lead DFMA Initiatives: Spearhead efforts to embed DFMA principles into the new product introduction process, focusing on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Supplier Development: Collaborate with and develop EMS to establish and maintain best-in-class manufacturing processes. This includes auditing their capabilities and guiding them to meet MSI's quality and productivity standards.
- Process Innovation: Continuously seek out and implement new manufacturing processes and technological breakthroughs to improve product quality, increase productivity, and reduce costs.
- Cost & Productivity Management: Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, working closely with design engineers, supply chain managers, and quality assurance teams to ensure a seamless transition from design to mass production.
Requirements
- Education: Master’s / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering.
- Expertise in DFMA: Deep knowledge and practical experience in applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies.
- Manufacturing Acumen: Strong understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g., Ultrasonic Welding, Heat stake, Resistance welding, Laser welding, sheetmetal fabrication) and ability to evaluate a supplier's production capabilities.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Identify potential manufacturing and assembly issues early in the design phase and propose innovative, practical solutions.
- Leadership and Influence: Influence cross-functional teams and external suppliers to adopt best practices and drive process improvements.
- Results-Oriented Mindset: Proven track record of achieving measurable improvements in quality, productivity, and cost in a manufacturing or NPI environment.
