Job summary

KPJ Tawakkal Health Centre in Malaysia is seeking a Dental Assistant to support dentists in clinical procedures and ensure patient comfort and safety. The role covers chairside assistance, materials handling, sterilization, records management, and coordination with departments.

The successful candidate will have at least 1 year in a dental setting, SPM or equivalent, and prefer 2–3 years hospital or clinical experience. Training in KCIS system and infection control is included.

Qualifications

• SPM or equivalent is required.
• At least 1 year in a similar dental support role.
• 2–3 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or dental practice preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assist patients for dental procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
• Assist dentist during restorative and surgical procedures, including chairside tasks.
• Prepare and manage dental materials, instruments, and sterilization.
• Supervise Dental Aides and uphold infection control practices.
• Implement infection prevention and decontamination protocols.
• Coordinate lab tasks like making trays and bite splints.
• Maintain dental records, treatment plans, and patient documentation.
• Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients.
• Coordinate X-ray requests via KCIS system and prepare reports.
• Monitor and replenish materials and equipment stock.
• Liaise with Biomedical Engineering, Procurement, and vendors for maintenance.
• Promote good relationships with patients and staff; participate in marketing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Main Responsibilities

• Prepare and assist patients for dental procedures, ensuring comfort, safety, and readiness for treatment according to standard protocols.
• Support and assist the dentist or specialist during restorative and surgical procedures, including chairside assistance, suctioning, and instrument handling.
• Prepare and manage dental materials, instruments, and equipment before and after each treatment, ensuring availability and proper sterilization.
• Supervise and guide Dental Aides in clinical duties, maintaining discipline, work quality, and adherence to infection control practices.
• Implement and monitor infection prevention and decontamination protocols, maintaining a clean and safe environment within the dental surgery.
• Perform and coordinate laboratory-related tasks such as making special trays, bite splints, and assisting in dental lab work when required.
• Manage and maintain dental records, treatment plans, insurance reports, and patient documentation in line with confidentiality and data protection policies.
• Provide and communicate pre- and post-operative instructions to patients, ensuring understanding and adherence to treatment plans.
• Assist and support dental consultants in ordering diagnostic tests such as X-rays through the KCIS system and preparing relevant reports.
• Monitor and replenish dental materials, consumables, and assets, ensuring proper stock levels and timely procurement.
• Liaise and coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, Procurement, and vendors for equipment maintenance, calibration, and servicing.
• Promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, colleagues, and stakeholders to ensure a positive working environment.
• Contribute and participate in departmental marketing efforts to attract new patients while maintaining excellent service for existing clients.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by immediate superior or hospital management.

Qualification Education Minimum Requirement

• SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) or equivalent.

Experience Minimum Requirement

• 1 year of experience in a similar work environment.
