Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care aligned with hospital goals and nursing services.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • 1) Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
  • 2) Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
  • 3) Obtain unit report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse.
  • 4) Daily routine in Operation theatre: Perform thorough cleaning each morning, including sanitizing operating tables, lamps, and others. Inspect supplies and gas cylinders to ensure their safety and guarantee well-stocked anesthesia machine. Transport patients from the ward, transporting the patient to the induction room, and assisting the patient until they are evaluated by an anesthetist. Transport patients to the operating room and assist in their safe lifting onto the operating table. Provide assistance to the anesthetist, adjust the operating light according to the surgeon's instructions, and consistently maintain the sterility and cleanliness of the operating theatre. Transport the patient to the recovery room and assist in their comfort. Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients' needs and communicate with them and their families. Perform cleaning of the floors, operating tables, walls, and lamps, as well as disinfection of the operating theatre (OT) and scrub room after each procedure. Conduct weekly cleaning of the entire unit to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. Keeps the unit, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy. Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations. Answer phone calls and relay messages. Attendants to patients call the bell promptly. Ensure portable oxygen continuous supply for emergency needs.
  • 5) Assists the trained staff in various aspects: Carried out of basic nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, transfer, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc. Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly. Records the daily charges for the items used in the unit and updates the patients' charges accordingly. Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely using the correct body mechanics. Accompanies the consultant or anaesthetist in performing procedures and involve in all activities in operation theatre in the absence of trained staff.
  • 6) Daily routine in Central Sterile Supply Services Receive and inspect returned sets from wards. Distribute sterilized sets on an exchange basis. Clean and dry various instruments. Inspect the instruments are functional and sets are complete. Prepare and label sets for sterilization. Uphold cleanliness in workspaces, including sinks, tables, and trolleys. Keep the linen store and stock areas tidy and well-organized. Assist in inventory management for linen and instruments. Procure necessary solutions, tapes, sutures, and instruments from the store.
  • 7) Attend meetings held by the service.
Human Resource and Development
  • 1) Proactive in our own learning and development, and to meet the minimum requirement of 20 hours of continuing education per year.
  • 2) Involve orienting new staff members to the unit routines.
  • 3) Maintain a record of personal leave and training attendance.
Policies and Procedure

Adhere to the hospital's policies and nursing code of conduct, ensuring patient confidentiality and standard infection control practices are upheld.

Facilities and Equipment

Assist the trained staff in managing the proper storage, condition, and availability of biomedical equipment in the unit, maintaining a sufficient supply of ward stock, and maintaining accurate records for equipment, medical supplies, and consumable item specimen collections.

Safety and Quality Improvement Activities
  • 1) Participate in new services, comply with 5S activities, patient safety policies, and adherence to ISO, MSQH, JCI, PSG, and NNA, ensure comply with patient safety goals, and occupational safety measures.
  • 2) Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, take reasonable care at work, cooperate with employers, wear proper PPE, and follow all safety and health instructions and measures.

  • 3) Experience working in a hospital setting is an advantage.
  • 4) Able to converse fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia.

  • 7) Willingness to work on scheduled hours, shifts and weekends, public holidays and any time called during an emergency.
