Job description

Based in Kuala Lumpur

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator with at least 8 years of expertise in managing and optimizing diverse database technologies. The ideal candidate has a strong background in database migration and conversion, performance tuning, automation, and troubleshooting across on-premise and cloud environments.

As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with Software Developers, IT Administrators, and other specialists to ensure efficient and secure data management. You will play a key role in database infrastructure, optimization, and seamless data migrations to cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Administration & Optimization

  • Administer and optimize database systems on Windows and Linux, utilizing Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, migrate, and patch databases, ensuring stability and security.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues, minimizing downtime and optimizing performance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance automation to enhance database efficiency.

High Availability, Disaster Recovery & Security

  • Deploy, configure, and troubleshoot High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Manage database backup and recovery strategies, utilizing both native and third-party backup utilities.
  • Ensure database security by applying industry best practices and compliance standards.

Cloud & Migration Expertise

  • Evaluate, design, and implement database migration strategies for on-premise and cloud-based environments (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure).
  • Optimize database architecture for scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness in cloud ecosystems.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with Software Developers, IT Administrators, and other specialists to ensure database efficiency in application and system operations.
  • Provide expert-level SQL query support, assisting with complex data extraction and reporting needs.
  • Train and mentor internal team members, sharing best practices for database management and security.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of professional experience in database administration.
  • Strong expertise in Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL administration.
  • Hands-on experience in database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and automation.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or similar for automation.
  • Experience with cloud-based databases and migration strategies (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud).
  • Knowledge of high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Fluent in English and Bahasa Melayu (both spoken and written)
Skills:
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft SQL Server Certification).
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools and automation frameworks.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication skills, and ability to work independently.
