Job summary

Carousell Group seeks an experienced Data Engineer to own end-to-end data projects for our large-scale e-commerce platforms. You will design and optimize high-volume ETL/ELT pipelines, build robust data warehouses, and partner with Data Scientists to enable ML-driven initiatives.

The role offers hybrid work flexibility and competitive compensation. You will mentor junior engineers, document data processes, and champion data security and governance across pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years hands-on experience in Data Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in SQL, Linux shell scripting, and at least one of Python/Java/Scala/Golang.
• Strong ETL/ELT concepts and orchestration tools, especially Apache Airflow.
• Experience designing and optimizing data warehouses/datamarts and DBA operations.

Responsibilities

• Initiate, plan, and own data engineering projects end-to-end with minimal supervision.
• Design, build, and optimize high-volume ETL/ELT pipelines across listings, user behavior, and transactions.
• Evaluate AI-assisted patterns to build internal tools and automations.
• Own data warehouse/datamart design and basic DBA operations on cloud data warehouse.
• Build and maintain streaming/real-time data pipelines for low-latency use cases.
• Lead architecture and migration of data warehouses, including security and governance.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists and Analysts to enable ML-driven initiatives.
• Diagnose and resolve pipeline failures and improve reliability across the data platform.
• Define and document data processes, schemas, and workflow automation standards.
