Controls Technician - Malaysia

Position Overview:

The candidate will lead the installation and start-up of new equipment, improve existing equipment, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The Controls Technician should be able to troubleshoot machines using programming tools. The candidate must be self-driven, quick to learn, and capable of working in a dynamic environment with multiple projects.

The successful candidate will possess strong structured problem-solving skills for complex component and machine interactions and be comfortable working hands-on with automation machinery.

Responsibilities:
  1. Install and troubleshoot control systems, servo drives, motors, HMIs, and PLCs on high-speed assembly, packaging, and process equipment.
  2. Possess knowledge of vision systems and programming experience in Python and/or C++/C.
  3. Develop, review, and collaborate on wiring diagrams and logic for new equipment, retrofits, and upgrades.
  4. Support continuous improvement initiatives extensively.
  5. Respond effectively in a fast-growing environment.
  6. Utilize troubleshooting skills to identify root causes and solutions.
  7. Be independent and self-motivated.
  8. Drive maintenance process improvements aligned with manufacturing objectives: Quality, Service, Cost.
  9. Interpret data to inform plant decision-making and prioritize reliability efforts.
  10. Maintain and publish operational scorecards to track projects and improvements.
  11. Support technology transfer and equipment design reviews.
  12. Ensure safety, quality, and employee guidelines compliance.
  13. Maintain a cGMP environment and operate within FDA guidelines.
  14. Serve as backup Engineering Maintenance Manager; off-shift support may be required.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Diploma in engineering or related field.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in Pharma or Medical Device environment working directly with automated manufacturing equipment is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with automated production equipment setup and operation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and data analytics tools.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a high-volume production setting.
Preferred Skills and Competencies:
  • PLC programming knowledge for Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi; Beckhoff is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HMI/SCADA development.
  • Technical ability with assembly methodologies, pneumatic actuators, servo motors, sensors, robotics, etc.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and manuals.
  • Knowledge of cam-driven linkages, component assembly, and automation.
  • Troubleshooting skills with programming tools.
  • Experience with imaging systems and software is a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of servo motion control and robotics.
  • Familiarity with cGMP, ISO 13485, and FDA regulations.
  • Experience in regulated industries, especially consumables.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and process discipline.
  • Multilingual abilities (English, Malay, Mandarin) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Stand up to 75% of shift; walking up to 50%.
  • Work off-shifts (nights/weekends) as needed, up to 10%.
