You can expect to be part of a team to provide strategic and tactical legal guidance to Marsh McLennan’s Marsh and Mercer Asia business, focusing on commercial contracting and related matters. You will mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the LCPA team and collaborate closely with the business and other members of the LCPA team. Your responsibilities will include reviewing and negotiating client engagement agreements as well as vendor and other third-party agreements. You will also assess Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and prepare responses that align with relevant contractual requirements and positions, and effectively communicate company and legal department policies and approval processes for contract modifications.

We will count on you to:

  1. Advise on legal, regulatory, and business risks related to the Marsh & Mercer Asia business, spanning, among others, corporate and commercial issues, business structures and models, insurance and reinsurance, and consulting matters.
  2. Advise on, review, draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contractual arrangements with clients, vendors and other third parties across the region, including global and regional master services agreements and other ancillary legal documentation as appropriate.
  3. Collaborate with in-country and subject matter expert LCPA colleagues to (i) anticipate, identify and address local legal and regulatory issues and develop legal strategies and solutions; and (ii) analyse a broad range of laws and regulations affecting the operations of the business, including those arising from corporate structures and business models.
  4. Act as an escalation point for junior members of the LCPA team in the first instance and provide technical feedback where necessary.
  5. Collaborate with other members of LCPA teams globally to create, update and maintain template agreements and implement process developments.
  6. Maintain up-to-date legal knowledge for compliance with relevant policies and legislation.
  7. Provide training on commercial/contracting matters.
  8. Support the wider LCPA team with internal projects and various commercial matters.
  9. Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
  10. Above all, exercise sound judgment.

What you need to have:

  1. At least 10 years’ PQE (qualified as a solicitor in Singapore, Malaysia or an equivalent common law jurisdiction).
  2. Relevant experience at a law firm or in-house at a multi-national corporation (preferably a professional services or financial services organization), with a focus on commercial contracting and processes across regions.
  3. Commercial lawyer with strong technical and project management skills.
  4. Excellent drafting and negotiation skills.
  5. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage expectations well.
  7. Strong commercial acumen with an ability to deliver clear and pragmatic solutions.
  8. Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines and tasks.
  9. Experience in supervising junior team members/paralegals or being a contact for contractual escalations would be advantageous.

What makes you stand out?

  1. Positive attitude and ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
  2. Experience being a commercial lawyer with strong technical and project management skills.
  3. Strong project and know-how management experience.
  4. Innovative and technically inclined to drive solutions using system applications.

Why join our team:

  1. We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
  2. We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
