Job summary

PayNet, Malaysia's Payments Network, seeks a senior backend engineer to own design and delivery of scalable backend services. You will build RESTful APIs in Java/Spring Boot, with Golang/Python as pluses, and mentor junior engineers in an Agile environment.

You will lead architecture decisions, optimize relational databases, and ensure high reliability for national-scale onboarding platforms. Expect proactive risk management and strong emphasis on security and performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong proficiency in Java/Spring Boot (Golang or Python a plus).
• Proven end-to-end ownership: design, troubleshooting, problem analysis, and unit testing.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and scalable backend systems.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, SQL, and performance optimization.
• Structured problem-solving ability and ability to explain diagnosis, not just fixes.
• Experience mentoring engineers and working in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Take a problem statement and independently research, propose, and defend a technical solution with trade-offs.
• Design and lead architecture for scalable, high-performance backends from first principles.
• Own end-to-end delivery: design → build → test → deploy → post-release stability.
• Flag architectural or scalability risks proactively before production incidents.
