Job summary

Grab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend for Insurance Operations, based in Malaysia. You will design and implement backend services powering accounting, reporting, and third‑party integrations, including regulatory reporting capabilities with local partners.

The role emphasizes ownership, a hunger for learning, and autonomous delivery. You will work with a team focused on regulatory compliance and partner integrations, reporting to the Engineering Manager, Insurance Operations.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software development experience.
• Proficiency in Java (preferred) and/or Golang.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and Git.
• Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS).
• Experience with clean architecture principles and SOLID principles.
• Experience with financial/regulatory systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality and scalable backend applications for accounting, reporting, and integration services.
• Build and maintain third-party integrations (ISM, APAD, JPJ) for regulatory compliance.
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code to solve challenging problems.
• Collaborate with diverse teams to design and ship new features.
• Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge.
• Troubleshoot, debug complex issues, and provide quick resolutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical direction.
• Participate in On-Call rotations to ensure service reliability.

At GrabFin, we empower the people of Southeast Asia by ensuring financial inclusion for the underserved. The Insurance Operations PST in Malaysia supports Insurance products and owns Accounting, Reports, Internal Tools, and Third-Party Integration domains for insurance products.

Get to know the Role

You will report to the Engineering Manager, Insurance Operations, based in Malaysia and develop backend systems powering accounting, reporting, and third-party integrations for insurance products. You will work on BNM regulatory reporting capabilities and local partnership integrations. We're looking for candidates that embody ownership, display a hunger for learning and improvement, and excel in autonomy.

This role is onsite based in our Petaling Jaya, Malaysia office.

What Essential Skills You will Need

• You have 4+ years of relevant experience in software development

• You have computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures
• You have hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS)
• You have experience with clean architecture principles and SOLID principles
• You have experience with financial/regulatory systems is a plus
