Job summary

PayNet is seeking a senior backend engineer to design and deliver scalable, high-performance systems for Malaysia’s national payments network. You will own end-to-end delivery, mentor engineers, and maintain RESTful services using Java, Spring Boot, Golang or Python.

You will collaborate across teams to ensure security, reliability, and audit-readiness while championing best practices in CI/CD and testing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Java/Spring Boot; Golang or Python is a plus.
• Proven end-to-end ownership: design, troubleshooting, structured problem analysis, and unit testing.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and scalable backend systems.
• Solid understanding of relational databases, SQL, and performance optimization.
• Strong, structured problem-solving ability—how you diagnose issues, not just fixes.
• Experience mentoring engineers in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

• Research and defend a technical solution from problem statements, including trade-offs.
• Design and lead architecture for scalable, high-performance backend systems.
• Own end-to-end delivery: design → build → test → deploy → post-release stability.
• Proactively flag architectural or scalability risks before production incidents.
• Develop and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs using Java, Golang, or Python.
• Design and optimize database schemas and queries for performance and data integrity.
• Write unit and integration tests as part of delivery.
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive root-cause analysis to permanent fixes.
• Set and enforce code review standards (PR size, test coverage, security checks).
• Review peers' and juniors' code with a teaching mindset.
• Champion CI/CD, branching, and release discipline for a national payments system.
• Adapt quickly to team tooling and review culture within a few weeks.
