Job summary

Job description

Lead independent oversight, review and challenge activities for complex, material, or high-risk AI use cases and solutions, ensuring AI risks are appropriately identified, assessed, mitigated, and governed in accordance with the organisation’s AI risk management framework, while providing technical leadership and oversight for the AI risk review function

Key Responsibilities

• Lead independent reviews of complex, material, or high-risk AI use cases and solutions, and provide independent challenge and recommendations on AI risk management practices, control design, governance arrangements, and risk mitigation measures
• Assess the adequacy of guardrails, controls, and risk mitigation measures for AI solutions, including those implemented on enterprise platforms, cloud ecosystems, and third-party solutions and providers
• Establish, maintain, and continuously enhance AI risk review methodologies, assessment criteria, review templates, and supporting artefacts to strengthen AI risk oversight
• Provide quality assurance and guidance over review outcomes, findings, recommendations, and risk assessments performed by AI risk reviewers to ensure consistency and quality of review activities
• Determine material risk issues requiring escalation to governance forums, management committees, or senior stakeholders, and support reporting on significant AI risk matters
• Identify thematic risk issues, emerging AI risk trends, and common control weaknesses across AI initiatives, and recommend enhancements to governance and risk management practices
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to AI risk reviewers to build capability and strengthen the effectiveness of the review function
• Maintain awareness of emerging AI risks, governance developments, industry practices, and regulatory expectations relevant to AI risk management

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. Computer Science, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence
• Experienced in AI/ML development, model validation, model risk management, technology risk, cybersecurity, AI risk review, or related functions
• Experience leading risk assessments, review activities, assurance engagements, or control evaluations for technology, model, or AI-related initiatives
• Experience operating within a regulated environment, preferably in financial services
• Strong understanding of AI and related concepts, including associated governance, ethical, regulatory, and risk considerations
• Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of controls, governance mechanisms, and risk mitigation measures
• Ability to identify, assess, challenge, and provide guidance on risks, controls, assumptions, and risk management approaches
• Familiarity with enterprise AI platforms, cloud architecture, and system guardrails, including Microsoft enterprise technology ecosystem and governance capabilities (e.g. Azure AI Services, Microsoft Copilot Studio, M365 Copilot, Power Platform)
• Experience with development, implementation, validation, or oversight of advanced AI systems would be highly advantageous
• Familiarity with major cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS) and their related services
• Knowledge of open-source AI models, tools, and libraries (e.g. Hugging Face), including associated risks, controls, and governance considerations
• Ability to translate technical platform controls into governance requirements and risk management expectations
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical thinking, and judgement capabilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex AI risks and review outcomes to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to influence stakeholders while maintaining an independent review perspective
