The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Finance Manager in delivering accurate and timely financial oversight of the Group’s upstream oil and gas operations in Malaysia and Vietnam (“subsidiaries/ BUs”). The position acts as a critical link between Group Finance and the finance teams of the subsidiaries/ BUs to ensure the integrity of financial reporting, compliance, analysis, and strategic financial support.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESFinancial Reporting & Analysis
- Review and/or prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports from subsidiaries/ BUs.
- Perform in-depth financial analysis and identify key performance trends, variances, and potential issues (e.g., impairment risk, budget overruns, declining production volumes).
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of submissions from subsidiaries/ BUs for group consolidation and external reporting.
Management & Group Support
- Act as a liaison between Group Finance and subsidiaries/ BUs to coordinate financial data, reporting requirements, and deadlines.
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial information for quarterly announcements and other corporate disclosures.
- Support evaluation of corporate exercises, including acquisitions and fundraising activities, as required.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in reviewing annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and performance monitoring for subsidiaries/ BUs.
- Collaborate with the Finance Manager and subsidiaries/ BUs to improve forecasting accuracy and cost control.
- Support cash flow planning and analysis, considering both BU-level operations and Group priorities.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., MFRS), internal policies, and tax regulations.
- Review tax submissions and planning strategies in coordination with Group and subsidiaries/ BUs’ tax teams.
- Promote consistency and alignment in reporting formats, accounting practices, and internal controls across subsidiaries/ BUs.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
- Work closely with subsidiaries/ BUs to enhance quality, accuracy and timelines of financial deliverables.
- Support continuous improvement of financial processes and reporting tools.
- Provide guidance and support to the Accountant and collaborate closely with BU finance teams to build capability and ensure alignment with Group objectives.
Other Duties
- Undertake special assignments and ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the Finance Manager or CFO.
- Participate in departmental initiatives to improve financial transparency, operational efficiency, and decision-making support.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a professional qualification from an internationally accepted accounting body (e.g., ICAEW, ACCA, MICPA, CPA etc.) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/ Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant working experience, preferably within the upstream oil & gas (E&P) industry.
- Strong understanding and relevant experience in the upstream oil & gas (E&P) industry is a key advantage.
- Familiarity with public listed company reporting requirements, including regulatory and disclosure standards in Malaysia.
- Prior experience in auditing and/or corporate finance is highly desirable.
- Detail-oriented, capable of being hands-on in preparing and reviewing financial deliverables with a high degree of accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure and manage tight deadlines effectively.
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal, with strong communication and presentation skills.
- A self-starter who is proactive, meticulous, and well-organised, with strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and cultures.
