- Maintain a special educational needs register.
- Put provision in place to ensure that the progress of students with special educational needs improves relative to those without special educational needs.
- Support all students with special educational needs.
- Support all staff in understanding the needs of students with special educational needs and this includes regular training as well.
- Support departmental development of special educational needs provision.
- Monitor progress towards targets for pupils with special educational needs.
- Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of provision.
- Promote inclusion best practices and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school through membership of the senior leadership team and where possible, attendance at school events.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of provision.
Teaching and Learning
- Support the identification of and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for individual students with special educational needs.
- Work with staff to develop effective ways of bridging barriers to learning through:
- assessment of needs
- monitoring of teaching quality and student achievement
- target setting (IEPs or Provision Maps)
- keeping accurate records
- Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform practice.
- Undertake day to day co-ordination of special educational needs students’ provisions through close liaison with staff, parents and external agencies.
- Work with principals, key stage coordinators, teachers and pastoral staff to ensure all students learning is of equal importance and that there are high and realistic expectations of students.
- Co-ordinate all Annual Reviews and reviews of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) where appropriate and attend/chair meetings when necessary.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a good Honours Degree in Psychology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology or related fields.
- Hold a UK-recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or similar).
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience with children with Special Needs.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to teach an additional subject would be an advantage.
