Job description

The Security Guard is responsible for safety rounds and gangway security. The Security Guard operates under the supervision of the Chief Security Officer while acting as the Response Guard, during safety rounds, or when standing gangway security.

All shipboard employees are expected to exemplify the principles of the STAR Program's Credo consistently. Additionally, duties and responsibilities must be performed in accordance with ISM/ISO and SQM standards, USPH guidelines, and Environmental and Safety policies.

Employees may be required to perform functions across various service venues and throughout the ship.

It is every employee's responsibility to conduct oneself professionally and courteously, including physical and verbal interactions with guests and fellow crew members, particularly in guest contact and crew areas.

Environmental Commitment: The company values the environment highly. All crew members shall understand and comply with environmental policies and work to safeguard the environment. Any environmental system malfunctions must be immediately reported to the supervisor.

Safety & Quality Management: The Security Guard must be familiar with the Safety & Quality Management Program, including responsibilities within the Safety Organization, Emergency Plan, and Station Bill.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing safety rounds and maintaining gangway security.
  2. Observing and preserving safety for passengers, crew, and the vessel.
  3. Remaining alert during safety rounds and following designated procedures. The Guard may be the first responder to incidents or fires, assessing situations and acting until help arrives.
  4. Knowing the location and use of all safety-related equipment.
  5. Acting as an additional spotter for problems on the vessel and reporting incidents or property abuse immediately to the Chief Security Officer or the Deck Officer.
  6. Familiarity with procedures for handling passenger complaints.
  7. Performing additional routines and tasks as assigned by supervisors.

The role also involves cost containment through proper use and maintenance of chemicals, supplies, and equipment.

  • Minimum age 21 years.

  • Strong character and professional ethics.
  • Well-tempered and well-mannered.
  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
  • Ability to read and write English to understand written procedures and communicate effectively with guests and supervisors.
