Your Role
- This position is responsible for leading Sales and Business Development activities for major Asia Pacific Japan Direct and Consortium Subsea accounts and managing the overall business relationship between Ciena and the customer.
- The Sales Leader is responsible for developing strong customer relationships that prevent competitive infiltration into the account and provide customer intimacy at the ‘C’ level.
- We are looking for a highly motivated, results-oriented, experienced leader with strong account strategy and large system sales background.
- Candidate must have strong interpersonal and presentation skills, the ability to handle many competing priorities within customer accounts, and a strong focus on driving new business while exceeding quarterly and annual order, revenue, and margin targets.
- Focus on execution and sales strategy, maintaining and expanding opportunities in the existing pipeline, and ownership of senior relationships throughout the accounts at both external and internal levels.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead, devise, and execute sales strategies and account plans to meet/exceed sales, bookings, and margin quotas.
- Build and implement account strategy plans to maximize revenue streams and margins in line with company expectations.
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships at all levels, including executives.
- Participate in setting strategies and tactics for each sales objective.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of the competitive landscape and the Asia Pacific and Japan subsea market.
- Oversee the sales and fulfillment process for global activities.
- Qualify new business opportunities, working with Legal and Commercial departments to assess risks and revenue potential.
- Manage Salesforce activities, including weekly status, progress, and forecast reports, with forecasting at monthly and quarterly periods.
- Collaborate with the extended Ciena team, including executives, product marketing, product management, and sales operations, to achieve sales and revenue goals.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Ciena products and future portfolio.
Minimum Essential Requirements
- At least 3 years of major account or global account management/sales experience with a proven track record.
- 5+ years in sales, system engineering, or product management, with a technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of optical and subsea networks is a significant asset.
- Understanding of subsea customer network requirements, operational and capital expenses, and total cost of ownership models.
- Knowledge of transmission systems, data networks, optics, and network management.
- Familiarity with Ciena products or the ability to learn them.
- Experience leading complex sales strategies and methodologies.
- Excellent 'C-Level' business communication skills.
Highly Desirable Requirements
- Experience with Asia Pacific subsea markets, especially with consortium and large service provider customers.
- Knowledge of submarine consortiums and global service provider organizational structures and decision processes.
- Market intelligence regarding competitors across Asia Pacific, Japan, and globally.
- Understanding of Wet Plant, SLTE, and Transponder architectures and evolution.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders globally.
- Ability to prioritize and work under pressure independently.
- MBA or advanced technical degree.
- Deep understanding of markets, segmentation, and service providers.
- Advanced knowledge of the competitive landscape and L0-L3 network infrastructure (hardware and software).
- Experience with software and professional services.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills.
- Strategic thinking regarding new business opportunities and large global account sales.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% for business and customer meetings.
