Job summary

GEO STRATEGIC (M) SDN BHD is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join our team on a contract basis in Kerteh, Terengganu. This role sits within our Health, Safety and Environment department and focuses on maintaining high safety standards across our construction operations.

You will lead safety programmes, conduct site inspections, provide training, investigate incidents, and coordinate with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• recognised qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (OSHM or equivalent).
• 3–5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in construction.
• Knowledge of Malaysian OSH Act 1994 and Construction Industry Code of Practice.
• Ability to identify hazards, assess risks and implement controls.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections and audits for compliance.
• Develop and maintain safety programmes and procedures for construction activities.
• Provide safety training and induction to personnel, including contractors.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, documenting findings and actions.
• Maintain safety records and prepare management reports.
• Coordinate with authorities to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety campaigns.
• Monitor PPE usage and safety equipment on site.
• Collaborate with project managers to mitigate risks.
• Maintain emergency procedures and coordinate drills.

GEO STRATEGIC (M) SDN BHD is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to join our team on a contract basis in Kerteh, Terengganu. This is a pivotal position within our Health, Safety and Environment department, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of workplace safety across our construction operations. As Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in protecting our workforce, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organisation. This role is essential to our commitment to zero-harm operations and supporting the strategic objectives of our company.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and assess compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies
• Develop, implement and maintain comprehensive safety programmes and procedures tailored to construction activities
• Provide safety training and induction to all personnel, including contractors and subcontractors, ensuring adequate understanding of safety protocols
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near-misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective and preventive actions
• Maintain detailed safety records, statistics and reports, and prepare regular safety performance updates for management and stakeholders
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and standards
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns to promote a proactive safety mindset across all levels of the organisation
• Monitor the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment on site
• Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to identify and mitigate risks before work begins
• Maintain emergency response procedures and coordinate emergency drills and evacuation exercises

What we’re looking for

• Recognised qualification in Occupational Safety and Health (OSHM certification or equivalent international qualification)
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Safety Officer, preferably within the construction industry
• In-depth knowledge of Malaysian health and safety regulations, including the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and Construction Industry Code of Practice
• Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures in construction environments
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of personnel
• Proven ability to conduct investigations, analyse safety data and develop actionable recommendations
• Proficiency in computer systems and safety management software
• Physical ability to conduct site inspections and work in various weather conditions
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the operational area
• Certification in First Aid and CPR is advantageous
• Experience with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems is preferred
