The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment by implementing and enforcing company health and safety policies, procedures, and compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. This role is critical in identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety across all manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Regulation:
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Maintain current knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and industry standards.
Inspections & Audits:
Conduct regular workplace inspections and internal audits to identify hazards.
Prepare inspection reports and recommend corrective actions.
Lead investigations for accidents, near misses, and unsafe practices.
Compile incident reports and implement corrective/preventive measures.
Conduct safety orientation and ongoing training.
Organize safety drills, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
Coordinate meetings on safety & health as required by DOSH.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training.
Submit safety performance reports to management regularly.
PPE & Safety Equipment:
Monitor usage and condition of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ensure availability and proper maintenance of safety devices.
Carry out job hazard analyses and risk assessments for new and existing processes.
Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Develop and implement emergency response plans.
Coordinate with local emergency services when necessary.
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Green Book and be registered as a Safety & Health Officer (SHO) with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH/JKKP) Malaysia.
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
Completion of a DOSH-approved Safety and Health Officer course with sufficient practical experience for registration.
Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA 1994) and the Factories and Machinery Act 1967, including relevant regulations and codes of practice.
Proficient in conducting and documenting HIRARC (Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control), safety SOPs, emergency response planning, and internal audits.
Good communication and report writing skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and any safety management systems or tools.
