Job description

The Resident Consultant shall be responsible for providing educational solutions, academic or programme management strategies, and operational inputs for establishing and strengthening the delivery of the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level programmes for international school/s in Sarawak. The Resident Consultant can access relevant expertise, resources, and support from Sunway Education Group (SEG) as appropriate for these purposes.

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) of Sunway International Schools (SIS) and Senior Management of the international school/s in Sarawak, the Resident Consultant shall work closely with relevant parties to plan and implement professional development, academic quality assessments, and continuous improvement strategies for Cambridge IGCSE and A Level programmes.

The Resident Consultant will be based in Kuching, Sarawak. On a day-to-day basis, the Resident Consultant shall work with the international school/s leadership team to carry out the following roles and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and carry out an annual work plan (programme goals, assessments, academic outcomes, curriculum activities, and resource requirements) for teachers and students.
  2. Review students’ academic performance, teachers’ approaches to teaching and assessment of learning, and use of educational resources and technologies to enable students’ success in IGCSE and A Level programmes.
  3. Provide direct observation on teaching skills (DOTS) and effective intervention to improve teachers’ instruction and assessment methods; promote the use of new teaching methods, educational tools, and research and innovation for IGCSE and A Level programmes.
  4. Conduct training needs analysis (TNA), design and deliver relevant professional development/training programmes, and organise such events for teachers according to requirements of Cambridge IGCSE and A Level programmes and following the Cambridge International Certificate/Diploma in Teaching & Learning (CICTL, CIDTL).
  5. Establish a system for supporting and tracking students’ achievement and progression to the next level of studies, including guidance and counselling for post-secondary and university placements; guide teachers and students on career guidance matters for university studies and/or professional career pathways where appropriate.
  6. Carry out regular reviews, annual quality assurance checks, and necessary academic interventions and monitoring of teaching portfolios, assessment processes, teaching-learning methods and resources, academic practice and procedures, and support facilities; overall academic monitoring should cover three levels: (i) Years 7 to 9, (ii) Years 10 to 11 (IGCSE), and (iii) Years 12 to 13 (AS and A2 of A Level).
  7. Provide guidance and support on conducting extracurricular programmes including sports and social events, leadership and bridging programmes, and community service to foster a positive and holistic school culture.
  8. Provide quarterly progress reports and recommendations for continuous quality improvement to the School Board and/or Steering Committee.

General

  1. Act as liaison between SIS and international school/s in Sarawak, providing expertise, support, and best practices from SEG on policies and administration of academic programmes, extracurricular activities, student affairs (development, discipline, and wellbeing), and school crisis management guidelines.
  2. Organise and carry out training and job shadow sessions for international school teachers and administrators, mentoring sessions for school and subject leaders, and annual mobility programmes for students and staff.
  3. Arrange access to SIS’s library and teaching-learning resources where available.
  4. Offer advice on programme planning and resource allocations for current and new schools (e.g., teacher selection criteria, library and learning spaces, academic policies and procedures).
  5. Develop and maintain effective communication with stakeholder communities.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in the Cambridge programmes (IGCSE and A Levels) and the syllabi.
  • Experience in education management strategies and implementation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High adaptability, pragmatic, meticulous with good analytical skills, and able to work independently as well as in a team.
