The successful candidate will work with Dr Pang Bo on cellulose-based functional materials for food packaging under a project on Innovative Biopolymer-based Bioplastics for Active Food Packaging.
The main responsibilities of the position include:
a) Design and conduct laboratory experiments related to biopolymer-based bioplastics for food packaging applications. This includes the synthesis, characterization, and performance testing of biopolymer materials.
b) Collect, process, and analyze experimental data using appropriate scientific methods and tools.
c) Prepare scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations for dissemination of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
d) Provide guidance and supervision to undergraduate students involved in related research projects.
e) Contribute to the daily operations of the laboratory, including maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
Qualifications / Discipline:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong academic or research background in biopolymer chemistry, sustainable materials, or bioplastics.
Skills:
- Proficient in laboratory techniques for polymer synthesis and characterization (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, tensile testing).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective scientific writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience:
- Prior research experience in biopolymers, biodegradable materials, or sustainable packaging applications is highly preferred.
- Experience in preparing manuscripts or technical reports.
- Experience supervising or mentoring students is an advantage.
