Job Description

The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for a Research Assistant position in Dr Mohammad ALFATAH’s lab, part of Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab is dedicated to understanding the biology of aging and identifying geroprotective interventions to promote healthy longevity. Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with Principal Investigator (PI) to support ongoing research projects focused on chemical (e.g., drugs, natural products, metabolites) and genetic interventions for neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease. The role includes evaluating the efficacy of candidate interventions using cellular and disease models.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Conduct cell culture, high-throughput chemical/genetic screening, and molecular biology experiments involving DNA, RNA, protein work, and multi-omics analyses.
  2. Perform literature reviews, design experimental plans, and analyze data independently and reliably.
  3. Manage general laboratory operations, including maintaining chemical and cell line inventories, tracking equipment, and supporting project-related administration.
  4. Undertake any other related duties as assigned by the PI.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
  2. Prior laboratory experience, especially in cell culture and molecular biology techniques, is required.
  3. Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a self-driven and proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
  4. Experience in bioinformatics, particularly with Python or R programming, is a plus.
