Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. This position will support projects focused on the development of universal coronavirus vaccines and therapeutic monoclonal antibodies. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is a leading centre for education and research in microbiology, infectious diseases, and immunology, with a strong emphasis on translational outcomes (https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/mbio/). Appointments will initially be offered on a yearly contract basis, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project outcomes.

Purpose of the Position
The Research Assistant (RA) will report to and work closely with the Principal Investigator and other team members to ensure the timely and successful completion of the project. The RA will primarily be involved in conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments, performing flow cytometry, handling live viruses, and carrying out neutralization assays.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and will be expected to:

  1. Oversee the progress of the project.
  2. Express and purify recombinant proteins using mammalian expression systems (e.g., Expi293T) and affinity chromatography.
  3. Handle small animals, including performing immunizations and blood collection.
  4. Conduct flow cytometry and cell sorting for monoclonal antibody work. Prior experience in B cell cloning and monoclonal antibody production is preferred.
  5. Handling live viruses
  6. Assist with any other related duties as delegated by the PI.
Qualifications

The applicant should:

(a) Hold a Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, or a related discipline, with at least 1–2 years of relevant work experience;
(b) Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, possess an investigative mindset, and show strong attention to detail;
(c) Have experience in performing animal experiments and flow cytometry;
(d) Have prior research experience in antibody isolation, which will be considered an advantage.
