Job summary

Howden is seeking a seasoned Regional Data Officer to own Howden Asia's data agenda. This senior, hands-on role will set the regional strategy and collaborate with country and regional leaders to turn data into value, supported by Group Data & AI.

You will drive data initiatives from strategy to delivery and build a federated data capability in Asia. In this role you will partner with COO, CCO and CEO peers to prioritise use cases, deliver measurable outcomes, and enable data-led decisions

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the regional data strategy, aligned with divisional and Group-wide objectives.
• Maintain an executive KPI scorecard to enable data-led leadership.
• Set the regional data agenda by working with senior leaders (COOs, CCOs and CEOs) to identify, prioritise and win backing for the use cases that will move the business.
• Deliver tangible, visible value against those use cases, spanning data and AI, sourcing from Group, third parties and local resource for delivery.
• Turn proven demand into a business case for growing local resource, expanding the team as the value of data is established.
• Drive revenue growth by executing the existing Market Derived Income strategy and identifying new opportunities through data analysis.
• Turn data into actionable client and market insights that sharpen client servicing and targeting.
• Improve operational efficiency by streamlining processes and reducing overheads through better use of data.
• Raise data and AI literacy across the region, helping colleagues get real value from the enterprise AI tools already available (Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT).
• Identify practical AI use cases and deliver them using existing enterprise tools, Group capability and third parties, with appropriate human oversight in a regulated environment.

A LEADING GLOBAL INDEPENDENT BROKER

Howden is a specialist commercial insurance broker. Its regional footprint covers Singapore (regional headquarters),

Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan and India. It is part of the London-headquartered Howden Broking Group, a leading independent, global broker with offices in over 55 countries worldwide. The Group is pursuing an ambitious 5 year growth agenda towards 2030.

The Opportunity:

This is a strategy and delivery role. You will own the data strategy for Howden Asia and turn it into real, visible value for the region, using AI to accelerate and optimise that value.

Asia is at an early stage on data, with significant untapped value and no dedicated local team today. That is the opportunity. With the support of the Group Data & AI team, you will set the regional data strategy, shape and prioritise the use cases that matter most to the business, and win the backing of senior leaders across the region. You will deliver against them through a blend of Group, third-party and local resource.

As that value lands and demand grows, you will make the case for a dedicated data capability and build it out, growing from a founding, hands-on role into the leader of the regional data team. You will not do this alone - you operate in a federated model: Group provides the framework, platform, standards and a global data community; you drive the strategy and delivery on the ground in Asia.

Role Overview:

We are looking for an experienced data professional to own the regional data agenda for Howden Asia. This is a senior, hands-on role: you will set the strategy and work directly with country and regional leaders to turn it into value, with the Group Data & AI team and a global data community behind you. It will suit someone ambitious who knows data well and wants to define and grow a regional function from the ground up.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and execute the regional data strategy, aligned with divisional and Group-wide objectives.

Demand and Delivery

• Set the regional data agenda by working with senior leaders (COOs, CCOs and CEOs) to identify, prioritise and win backing for the use cases that will move the business.
• Deliver tangible, visible value against those use cases, which will span data and AI, owning the outcome and drawing on Group, third parties and local resource for delivery.
• Turn proven demand into the business case for growing local resource, expanding the team as the value of data is established.
• Drive revenue growth by executing the existing Market Derived Income strategy and identifying new business opportunities through data analysis.
• Turn data into actionable client and market insights that sharpen client servicing and targeting.
• Improve operational efficiency by streamlining processes and reducing overheads through better use of data.

AI Enablement

• Raise data and AI literacy across the region, helping colleagues get real value from the enterprise AI tools already available (such as Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT) in their day-to-day work.
• Identify practical AI use cases and deliver them using existing enterprise tools, Group capability and third parties, with appropriate human oversight in a regulated environment.

Working with Group

• Apply Group's data governance, quality and AI standards in region, following Group's guidance rather than building local governance capability from scratch.
• Engage actively in the Group data community, sharing knowledge and adopting best practice.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BE:

• Proven experience delivering data initiatives hands-on within complex, matrixed organisations.
• Strong grounding in data strategy and management, with a track record of turning real-world data into trusted insight and measurable value.
• Strong commercial and influencing skills, able to win sponsorship and generate demand from senior business leaders (COOs, CCOs, CEOs).
• AI-fluent and pragmatic with it: comfortable applying existing enterprise tools, Group capability and partners to real use cases and driving adoption.
• In-depth knowledge of the Asia insurance market is essential.
• Experience building a data capability in an immature or greenfield environment.
• Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
• A collaborative mindset and appetite for driving change.
