Job description

About the Role:

The Quality Engineer at Brooks plays a critical role in establishing and sustaining high standards of product quality. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring robust quality systems and processes to ensure products consistently meet technical specifications and customer expectations. The Quality Engineer works closely with cross‑functional teams to define quality control protocols, troubleshoot production issues, and drive continuous improvement across manufacturing. The core focus of this role is to monitor and reduce manufacturing variation, prevent defects at the source, and strengthen detection methods to eliminate escapes. This includes improving manufacturing methods and processes and contributing to product design enhancements to elevate overall product reliability and performance. As the voice of the customer, the Quality Engineer acts as a driving force for continuous quality improvement across the organization. The role collaborates extensively with operations, quality, supply chain, engineering, and business teams to champion quality excellence for both internal and external customers. This position ensures alignment with the broader company quality strategy and supports the implementation of industry best practices. The role spans three key functional responsibilities: Quality Control: Implementing inspection and testing regimes to ensure products meet specifications and taking necessary actions to correct nonconformances. Quality Assurance: Designing processes and procedures that systematically ensure requirements are met and prevent nonconformances. Quality Improvement: Analyzing product, process, and system performance and applying structured methods, tools, and techniques to drive ongoing improvements. Work Location: Onsite – Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop Quality and Process Control Methods: Work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams to develop, review, monitor, and enhance quality control and assurance systems, ensuring consistent product standards throughout manufacturing.
  • Process Monitoring and Control: Regularly verify that manufacturing processes meet defined quality standards, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Strengthen assembly and manufacturing processes through manufacturability assessments to error‑proof products and prevent human errors.
  • Where defect elimination is not feasible, establish rigorous process controls to monitor and continually reduce variation.
  • Defect Analysis and Troubleshooting: Investigate product failures and defects, determine root causes using structured tools such as FMEA, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Quality Audits and Compliance: Conduct internal quality audits and manage external audits to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001) and customer requirements.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze quality data (e.g., yield, defect rates) to identify trends, support decision‑making, and prepare accurate quality reports.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and optimize processes using Lean, Six Sigma, and other improvement methodologies.
  • Production Performance Analysis: Examine production data and key performance metrics to identify patterns, potential issues, and opportunities for process optimization and problem‑solving.
  • Statistical and Quality Methodology Application: Apply statistical analysis and quality assurance methodologies to evaluate product quality, identify root causes of defects, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Product Specifications and Documentation: Support the development and review of product specifications, test procedures, and quality documentation to ensure product integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Customer Quality Issue Resolution: Investigate customer‑reported quality issues, implement corrective actions, and provide comprehensive quality data and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Closed‑Loop Problem Resolution: Manage the full corrective‑action cycle—from material containment and product screening to root‑cause analysis—to ensure effective implementation of systemic corrective and preventive actions.
  • New Product Development Support: Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to integrate quality requirements into new product designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Industry and Technology Awareness: Stay informed on industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory updates, applying relevant insights to strengthen quality management practices in the semiconductor manufacturing environment.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior quality engineers and inspectors, promoting a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform any adhoc tasks required to support departmental objectives and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) or Materials Science, with a strong understanding of semiconductor equipment manufacturing processes.
  • Willing to perform 3 rotating shifts
  • Experience: 5–7 years of relevant experience in a similar quality‑focused role, with a proven track record in developing manufacturing processes and qualification plans for NPI and product/process changes.
  • CQE or CRE certification is an added advantage.
  • Quality Tools & Methodologies: Strong proficiency in fundamental and advanced quality methodologies, including APQP, FMEA, DOE, QFD, quality control planning, root cause analysis, error‑proofing (Poka‑Yoke), PPAP, SPC, and MSA.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9000/TS 16949 quality systems and ESD20.20 standards is required.
  • Data & Analytical Skills: Ability to use data analysis tools such as JMP and Minitab to interpret and manage large datasets for quality improvement.
  • Strong analytical capability to troubleshoot defects, determine root causes, and drive systemic corrective actions using structured approaches like 8D.
  • Semiconductor Reliability Expertise: Knowledge of semiconductor reliability principles, including accelerated life testing, stress testing, and understanding environmental impacts on performance and longevity.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with R&D, production, maintenance, and other cross‑functional teams to implement quality improvements and ensure seamless integration of quality requirements.
  • Process Improvement & Certifications: Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, demonstrating strong competence in process improvement and quality management techniques.
  • Systems Knowledge: Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), ERP platforms, and other quality management software tools.
  • Leadership: Experience leading and mentoring junior quality engineers and inspectors, promoting high standards of quality and continuous improvement.
  • Semiconductor Process Knowledge: Basic understanding of key semiconductor manufacturing processes such as lithography, etching, and deposition, and how they influence product quality.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to clearly communicate technical information and facilitate collaborative problem‑solving across multiple teams.
