Job summary

Randstad Malaysia is seeking a highly organized Purchaser to manage sourcing of construction materials, equipment and services. You will handle RFQs, price comparisons, and PO generation, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy in documentation.

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will negotiate with vendors, optimize costs, and maintain an up-to-date supplier database. Ideal candidates have a diploma or bachelor’s degree and 2–4 years in construction-related procurement.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of purchasing or material sourcing experience.

Responsibilities

• Source reliable suppliers, issue RFQs, and prepare price comparisons for management review.
• Negotiate competitive prices, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors to optimize costs.
• Generate and issue Purchase Orders (POs) using internal systems with clearly stated terms.
• Coordinate delivery timelines with site supervisors and project managers to ensure on-site material arrival.
• Verify DOs and invoices against POs before passing to accounts.
• Maintain and evaluate supplier/subcontractor database based on performance and price.

About the job

• Sourcing & RFQs: Source reliable suppliers, issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs), and compile price comparison sheets for management review.
• Negotiation & Cost Control: Negotiate competitive prices, credit terms, and delivery schedules with vendors to achieve maximum cost savings without compromising quality.
• PO Administration: Generate and issue Purchase Orders (POs) accurately using internal systems, ensuring all terms and conditions are clearly stated.
• Delivery & Logistics Coordination: Coordinate closely with site supervisors and project managers to track delivery timelines and ensure materials arrive on site exactly when needed.
• Invoice Verification: Match delivery orders (DOs) and invoices against POs to resolve any discrepancies in quantity or pricing before passing to the accounts team.
• Vendor Relationship Management: Maintain and evaluate an updated database of approved suppliers and subcontractors based on performance, reliability, and price.

About the manager/team

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Purchasing Manager.

Skills and experience required

• Qualifications: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Experience: 2-4 years of experience in purchasing or material sourcing, preferably within the construction, engineering, or hardware trading sector.
• Attributes: Sharp negotiation skills, strong attention to detail, high integrity, and the ability to work under tight project deadlines.
