DFM Engineer


If you are a DfM Technical Lead, Emerson has an exciting role for you! We are looking for a highly skilled individual for the position of DfM Technical Lead. This individual will be responsible for advising and consulting with R&D to support the design of new products that are highly manufacturable. They will work during the development process, influencing design, manufacturing, and test solutions. The role involves performing analysis to set aggressive goals for product release performance, with a focus on reducing traditional cost drivers associated with poor DfM. The DfM Technical Lead will collaborate across functional groups including R&D, Process, Test, Product, and Industrial Engineering to ensure alignment with factory capabilities and future technology directions. The candidate must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to share objective rationale to gain commitment in environments with conflicting goals.


Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough reviews of designs to identify potential manufacturing problems (DFM Analysis)
  • Develop and maintain DFM guidelines and checklists, ensuring adherence
  • Partner with designers and manufacturing teams to discuss DFM changes and drive design improvements for manufacturability
  • Drive cost reduction in design and manufacturing processes
  • Serve as the point of contact for product development teams regarding DfM content questions
  • Influence manufacturing capabilities to align with R&D product roadmaps
  • Participate in reflections on product performance metrics and drive continuous improvement
Minimum Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an accredited program
  • At least 10 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment, with understanding of product development phases
  • Proven expertise in DfM through work history
  • Experience in difficult trade-off conversations and working independently as a self-starter
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert in at least one DfM subject, preferably PCB
  • Broad understanding of Warehouse, Assembly, Test, Planning, Supply Chain, Logistics, Costing, Calibration, RMA
  • Ability to work globally and in a matrix management environment
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn and apply lessons learned
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills in English, including presentations
