WORK DESCRIPTION:
Report to the Director, Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve Office (PHBRO);
Support the Director in planning, design, and implementation of targeted research studies to generate new information and innovative ideas on sustainable biodiversity conservation and management in PHBR;
Provide technical leadership in planning, management, and implementation of biodiversity conservation and management activities under PHBRO;
Coordinate with external parties to conduct research/studies on PHBR areas;
Document case studies and share information on biodiversity conservation and management best practices and lessons learned with local partners/stakeholders/government agencies and the general public;
Coordinate planning and implementation of capacity building activities on biodiversity conservation and management;
Create alliances and networks with civil society, public, and private organizations for sustained dialogue and advocacy for improved biodiversity conservation and management in PHBR;
Coordinate preparation of policy recommendations and position papers to strengthen biodiversity conservation and management of PHBR;
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual work plans, budgets, and technical reports on biodiversity conservation and management activities as part of the overall PHBR planning and reporting cycle;
Provide technical advice and support on the strategic biodiversity conservation and management issues;
Represent the Program, as required, at state/national and international forums/meetings; and
Any other task or project assigned by the Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
Malaysian Citizen, 24 years old and above;
Bachelor/Masters/PHD in Science, Engineering, Sustainability Studies, Biodiversity Management or any other related discipline. Higher qualification is desirable;
At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience;
Strong analytical and project management skills, including strong ability to analyze and understand data and possible issues arise;
Must have strong negotiation, presentation and communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia (both verbal and written); ability to communicate to local and international partners is vital; additional language skills would be added advantage;
Motivated and self-driven individual with a strong commitment to integrity, professionalism and teamwork; experience in managing a team;
Confident and dynamic personality; strong creative outlook and willingness to take challenges;
Must be flexible and occasionally work on weekends and public holidays at short notice.
