As the Project Engineer (Procurement & Project Management), you will be a core team member of our Insect Technology projects team. You will be responsible for bringing our new production systems to life by managing the setup of new facilities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
You will be in charge of technical procurement, supplier management and project planning and coordination. You will manage project schedules and budgets and will be responsible for engaging the right external resources to scale our build-out capabilities.
This is not a typical project manager role. We are looking for builders with a strong technical foundation and with a strong ambition to build the next step of your career and lead project delivery in a rapidly growing agri-tech startup that is Making Insects Work For A Better Food System.
Responsibilities
- Lead project execution from design & procurement to installation, and commissioning, managing internal and external teams to deliver on time, scope and budget.
- Identify, assess, and manage suppliers, fabricators, and contractors for equipment, utilities, and facility works.
- Drive the technical procurement process, including preparing Requirement documentation, RFQs (Request for Quotation), evaluating technical and commercial proposals, and negotiating contracts.
- Be accountable for project timelines, budgets, and resource plans, providing regular progress reports and managing project risks.
- Manage the daily work schedule of project activities, ensuring vendor performance and verifying that work is completed to the required quality and safety standards including handling documentation requirements.
- Ensure facility, equipment and process safety, sanitation and compliance standards are met during project works. Contribute as a member of the HACCP and GMP+ team of the company.
- Ensure a smooth and comprehensive handover of completed projects to the Operations teams, including documentation, training, and spare parts lists.
Requirements:
- Must have: min 4 years of total working experience in technical project management, engineering, or manufacturing, preferably in agri/food-manufacturing industries.
- Bonus: min 2 years of experience managing projects and cross-functional teams, including contractors and suppliers.
- Proven experience in technical procurement, sourcing, vendor management, contract negotiation and Project management is essential.It's a big plus if you are experienced in Food/Agri-manufacturing industries: food manufacturing or agriculture (palm oil, large feed milling, poultry operations),

- General technology/software affinity & proficiency is a plus.
- Proficient written and spoken communication in English. Fluent Malay communication. Mandarin is a strong plus.
- Observe and promote safety at all times.
- Must have: own car & laptop. Travel is required.

Location
Your position would be based at our Senai/Kulai offices as well as our project sites, mostly in Pasir Gudang, but also in Kluang and project work in Kuching, Sarawak. We are looking to expand in other states in the near future, too.
