About the role

Symbiotica Speciality Ingredients Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to lead CAPEX expansion projects in our organization. This is a permanent, full-time role based in Kulim.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead projects through the full lifecycle: need identification, scope development, cost estimation, execution planning, capital expenditure requests, design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, qualification, training, startup, and closeout.
  2. Ensure project success within scope, cost, and schedule while meeting regulatory, functional, and good engineering practice requirements.
  3. Track progress, implement corrective actions, and provide regular status updates to management.
  4. Design and oversee process equipment, facilities, and utilities, including coordination with external vendors and consultants.
  5. Manage equipment procurement and installation, including developing specifications and participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).
  6. Oversee commissioning and qualification, including developing user, system, and functional requirements and executing installation and operational qualification protocols.
  7. Provide technical support for manufacturing equipment and processes, including troubleshooting issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions before, during, and after commissioning.
  8. Support quality policies by assisting in investigations and corrective action implementation.
  9. Support environmental, health, safety, and energy (EHS&E) goals by working safely, complying with all company safety guidelines, participating in process hazard analyses, conducting Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs), and adhering to process safety management procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with 5+ years of experience in API, chemical, or process industries.
  2. Strong expertise in civil, structural, architectural, chemical, and biotech processes, equipment, and facilities.
  3. Technical proficiency in process equipment/system design, P&ID development, equipment sizing/selection, specifications, instrumentation, and control systems.
  4. Experience managing capital projects through all phases, from concept to final turnover.
  5. Hands-on experience with AutoCAD, process data sheets, P&ID drawings, isometrics, and vendor/consultant document reviews.
  6. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, plan effectively, and organize efficiently.
  7. Strong teamwork, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills to establish and maintain constructive relationships with personnel across various disciplines and levels within the organization.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
