Job summary

A leading marine engineering firm in Miri, Malaysia is looking for a Project Coordinator with a degree in Naval Architecture or Engineering. The ideal candidate should have 3-5 years of experience in shipbuilding, specifically with offshore or military vessels, and must be proficient in MS Project and AutoCAD. Excellent communication and planning skills are essential, and fluency in English and Malay is required.

Qualifications

Job description

Assists the Project Manager by coordinating with design teams, production, procurement, and quality control to ensure project specifications and schedules are met.

Review technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with client and regulatory requirements.

Liaise with marine classification societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV) and regulatory bodies (e.g., Marine Department Malaysia).

Monitor progress and prepare regular status reports, identifying potential risks or delays and implementing mitigation strategies.

Monitor quality assurance checks with QA/QC at various project stages, including fabrication, outfitting, and sea trials.

Verify and review BOM to ensure the project tasks and items are mapped accordingly within the required timeline to achieve project milestones.

Support procurement in evaluating and selecting suppliers and subcontractors related to engineering scopes.

Conduct project meetings with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to clarify work scope, coordinate sequence of works, and update schedules.

Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies during project execution.

Provide technical support and solutions during construction and commissioning phases.

Ensure all changes to specifications, work scope, and drawings are documented.

Solve daily conflicts at ground level by monitoring and coordinating sequential and incompatible jobs affecting the master schedule.

Manage customer expectations at site and maintain good customer relationships.

Job Requirements:

Degree in Naval Architecture or Engineering (Mechanical / Marine / Electrical)

3 - 5 years of working experience in Ship Building, with experience in offshore vessels, military vessels, or commercial ships as an advantage.

Proficient in project scheduling tools, e.g., MS Project, and engineering software, e.g., AutoCAD.

Good understanding of ship design, construction processes, and classification standards.

Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under pressure and tight timelines.

Excellent communication, organization, and planning skills.

Proficient in English and Malay, both spoken and written.
