Job summary

Air Products is seeking a capable supervisor to lead daily shop-floor operations for ASU manufacturing on site in Johor Bahru region. You will ensure safe execution, high‑quality fabrication, and on‑time delivery while guiding a team of operators and technicians.

The role involves coordinating resources, enforcing drawings and specifications, and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

Qualifications

  • Must have manufacturing experience in pressure vessels or related equipment.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, weld symbols and work instructions.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to safety and ability to enforce safe work practices.
  • Experience leading or supervising shop-floor teams is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily shop-floor operations to meet safety, quality and production targets.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and resolve issues affecting productivity.
  • Ensure work follows instructions, drawings and engineering standards.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and reinforce Life-Saving Rules.
  • Coordinate with production control, planning, materials, inspector, welding engineering, NDE and EHS.
  • Support training, 5S, visual management and continuous improvement on the shop floor.
  • Maintain production records, time tracking and shift reports.
  • Drive productivity and cost control to meet project budgets.

Reimagine What’s Possible

Purpose

Lead daily shop‑floor operations for ASU manufacturing to ensure safe execution, high‑quality fabrication, and reliable on‑time delivery. The role supervises a team of operators and technicians, coordinates resources, and drives continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
Nature & Scope
  • Supervises a shift or functional area within the ASU manufacturing shop (e.g., welding, assembly, machining, cold box fabrication).
  • Provides coaching, direction, and daily priorities for operators and technicians.
  • Ensures all work follows Air Products’ safety standards, engineering requirements, and quality procedures.
  • Coordinates closely with production control, planning, materials, inspector, welding engineering, NDE, and EHS.
  • Assumption: Supports manufacturing of ASU modules, cold boxes, piping spools, skids, pressure‑retaining equipment, and related assemblies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct daily shop‑floor operations to meet safety, quality, and production targets.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and resolve issues impacting productivity or delivery.
  • Ensure all work is executed according to work instructions, drawings, and engineering standards.
  • Conduct safety engagements, toolbox talks, and reinforce Life‑Saving Rules.
  • Verify material readiness, tooling availability, and equipment condition before work starts.
  • Support NCR, rework, working stop investigations, corrective actions, and quality or schedule improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate production records, time tracking, WIP status, and shift reports.
  • Participate in production meetings and communicate priorities to team members.
  • Support training, skills development, and onboarding of operators and technicians.
  • Drive 5S, visual management, and continuous improvement activities on the shop floor.
  • Productivity & cost control to meet project budget.
  • Daily check and confirm shop labor status in TRAC/SAP system.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Technical diploma or bachelor’s in mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or similar field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in manufacturing pressure vessels.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising shop‑floor teams.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to safety and ability to enforce safe work practices.

Preferred:

  • Experience in ASU, cryogenic equipment, pressure vessels, or modular fabrication.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and visual management practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) for work orders and time recording.

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Safety or quality‑related certifications (ISO 9001, 45001 internal auditor) helpful.

Work Hours

Assumption: On‑site, full‑time role; Monday–Friday with flexibility for shift coverage, overtime, or urgent production needs & Site assembly or repair support.


Travel

Assumption: Minimal (≤5%); occasional visits to project site for equipment assembly or repair.
