The Principal Supplier Engineer, External Operations, Global sourcing APAC, will lead the SFMD (Sourced Finished Medical Device) products onboarding process in BSC and manage the engineering changes associated with these products by working closely with the internal BSC team as well as external partners (CMs, OEMs, etc.) from the APAC region. This position is part of the supplier management core team and involves driving improvements at BSC’s suppliers of finished medical devices.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage projects including new product development, process improvements, and cost reductions to support the daily operations of key SFMD suppliers.
  • Collaborate with PMO, R&D, Process Development, Quality, Production, Regulatory, Equipment Engineering, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure project success.
  • Contribute to new product onboarding, change management, process improvement, VIPs, and serve as a SME in manufacturing engineering, including process capability studies, DOE, Six Sigma, capacity analysis, report preparation, and documentation.
  • Support onsite assessment of SFMD suppliers by working with SQE and commercial sourcing, evaluate manufacturing capabilities, and assist in supplier selection.
  • Manage supplier performance from a technical perspective and work with the category team to score and improve supplier performance.
  • Execute plans to support supply chain goals, supplier performance, risk mitigation, and VIP execution with minimal guidance, communicating effectively across the organization.
  • Design and coordinate engineering tests and experiments, including DOE.
  • Troubleshoot product/process issues related to design, materials, or processes.
  • Analyze test results, draw conclusions, and prepare reports for the technical community.
  • Proficient in statistical tools (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt) and familiar with analytical techniques for defect investigation, able to present findings broadly.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or a prestigious university.
  • 10+ years of manufacturing/procurement engineering experience.
  • Strong organizational and execution skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and solution implementation.
  • Leadership skills and ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Willingness to work with engineers and technical staff across different sites.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global matrix environment with SMEs from various functions.
  • Willing to travel up to 25%, including international travel, typically without weekend travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the medical device industry within MNCs.
  • Manufacturing or supplier engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 and FDA QSR 820 standards.
