Problem Statement
The Principal Supplier Engineer, External Operations, Global Sourcing APAC, will lead the SFMD (Sourced Finished Medical Device) products onboarding process at BSC and manage engineering changes associated with these products. This role involves close collaboration with the BSC internal team and external partners (CMs, OEMs, etc.) in the APAC region. It is part of the supplier management core team and focuses on driving improvements with BSC’s suppliers of finished medical devices.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage projects including new product development, process improvements, and cost reductions, supporting the daily operations of key SFMD suppliers.
- Collaborate with PMO, R&D, Process Development, Quality, Production, Regulatory, Equipment Engineering, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure project success.
- Contribute to new product onboarding, change management, process improvements, VIPs, and act as a SME in manufacturing engineering, including process capability studies, DOE, Six Sigma, capacity analysis, and documentation.
- Support on-site assessment of SFMD suppliers by working with SQE and sourcing teams, evaluate manufacturing capabilities, and assist in supplier selection.
- Manage supplier performance from a technical perspective and work with the category team to improve supplier performance.
- Execute plans to support supply chain objectives, mitigate product risks, and implement VIPs with minimal guidance, communicating effectively across the organization.
- Design and coordinate engineering tests and experiments, including DOE.
- Troubleshoot product/process issues related to design, materials, or processes.
- Analyze test results, draw conclusions, and prepare reports for technical audiences.
- Utilize statistical tools (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt) and investigative techniques to analyze defects and communicate findings.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited or prestigious university.
- 10+ years of manufacturing or procurement engineering experience.
- Strong organization, execution, and technical problem-solving skills.
- Proven leadership, teamwork, and project management abilities.
- Willingness and ability to work with global engineers and technical staff across different sites.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to operate within a global matrix organization with SMEs from various functions.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%, including international travel, generally excluding weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the medical device industry within MNCs.
- Manufacturing or supplier engineering experience.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485 and FDA QSR 820 standards.
