Job description

Problem Statement

The Principal Supplier Engineer, External Operations, Global Sourcing APAC, will lead the SFMD (Sourced Finished Medical Device) products onboarding process in BSC and manage engineering changes associated with these products by closely working with the internal BSC team as well as external operation partners (CMs, OEMs, etc.) from the APAC region. This position is part of the supplier management core team and involves driving improvements at BSC’s suppliers of finished medical devices.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Manage projects including new product development, process improvements, and cost reductions while supporting the daily operations of key SFMD suppliers.
  2. Collaborate with PMO, R&D, Process Development, Quality, Production, Regulatory, Equipment Engineering, Supply Chain, and Marketing to ensure project success.
  3. Contribute to new product onboarding, change management, process improvement, VIPs, and serve as a SME in manufacturing engineering, including process capability studies, DOE, Six Sigma, capacity analysis, and documentation.
  4. Support on-site assessment of SFMD suppliers, evaluate manufacturing capabilities, and provide input for supplier selection.
  5. Manage supplier performance from a technical perspective and work with the category team to improve supplier performance.
  6. Execute plans to support supply chain objectives, mitigate product risks, and implement VIPs with minimal guidance, communicating effectively within the organization.
  7. Design and coordinate engineering tests and experiments, including DOE.
  8. Troubleshoot product/process issues related to design, materials, or processes.
  9. Analyze test results, draw conclusions, and prepare reports for the technical community.
  10. Proficient in statistical tools (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt) and analytical techniques for defect investigation, capable of presenting technical results broadly.
  11. Mentor colleagues with less experience.
Job Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited institutions or prestigious universities.
  2. 10+ years of manufacturing/procurement engineering experience.
  3. Strong organizational and execution skills.
  4. Ability to solve technical problems and implement solutions.
  5. Leadership skills and team orientation to drive projects to completion.
  6. Willingness to work with engineers and technical staff across different sites.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to work in a global matrix environment with SMEs from various functions.
  9. Willing and able to travel approximately 25%, including internationally (typically excluding weekends).
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in the medical device industry within MNCs.
  2. Manufacturing or supplier engineering experience.
  3. Familiarity with ISO 13485 and FDA QSR 820 standards.
