A leading engineering firm in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead static equipment engineering for subsea projects. The role requires over 10 years of experience in offshore/subsea design, proficiency in industry standards, and strong leadership abilities. Successful candidates will join a dynamic team focused on innovative engineering solutions in the energy sector.
Job Overview:
General Description includes complex mechanical engineering design, analysis and development of an assigned scope of work in a Subsea project and/or specific complex deliverables such as pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, rotating equipment and piping engineering. Work includes, among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and supervising vendor packages for equipment and mechanical systems. Is able to effectively communicate complex technical solutions and concepts to other engineers and non-engineers. Assists with training other engineers by providing instruction on new technologies and/or a specialization. Supports the development of new technologies and methods. Maintains and promotes a focus on Subsea’s end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines. Can be assigned as Mechanical project lead/Co-Lead, departmental or project mechanical sub-discipline section lead/ supervisor. Mechanical sub-disciplines are: 1) Rotating and Packaged equipment, 2) Fixed equipment including vessels and heat transfer equipment, 3) Specialty engineering including painting, insulation, fireproofing, noise, welding and CFD/FEA.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Lead static equipment engineering (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks) for FPSO and subsea projects
Develop and review datasheets, specifications, and vendor documents
Ensure compliance with project specs, industry codes (ASME, API, ISO), and client requirements
Coordinate with vendors, clients, and classification bodies (ABS, DNV)
Drive design reviews, HAZOP/HAZID participation, and technical risk mitigation
Mentor and guide junior engineers
Support fabrication, offshore installation, and commissioning phases
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s a plus)
10+ years experience in offshore/subsea static equipment design
Strong knowledge of industry standards and offshore project delivery
Proficient in PV Elite, Compress, and engineering review tools
Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills
