Principal / Lead Java Engineer (Subject Matter Expert)
About the job
As a Principal / Lead Java Engineer (Subject Matter Expert), you will work in a highly specialized Core Engineering squad of 4 that supports cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable software. You will tackle the most complex and challenging problems, moving from team to team.
Responsibilities
Identify and prioritize problems that have the biggest business impact.
Design and develop high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions using Java.
Continuously improve software development processes and tools.
Lead technical initiatives and mentor junior engineers.
Team & Culture
As a Java subject matter expert, you will set the engineering standards and keep those around you accountable (MAANG standards).
Reporting to a Head of Engineering who is highly technical and has worked for US Unicorn startups.
Liaise with commercial directors and, with little direction, prioritize and solve the problems others can't.
This is a well-paid job with high expectations; it can be hard and stressful at times (firefighting, etc.).
Must Have
5+ years of experience in Java (T-Shaped engineer with depth of experience in Java).
Experience working for local Unicorns, US, EU scale-ups, or VC-backed startups (Not MNC/Not Bank).
Nice to have
Data: Python / Hadoop / Spark (or ML).
Strong communication and influencing skills at the director level.
Levels
Individual Contributor (IC) role - would suit someone who wishes to pursue a senior IC career path.
Salary is comparable to Europe (Top 5% earner in Malaysia) but with a lower cost of living.
You will have 6-15+ years of experience in a Senior/Lead/Principal Engineer role(s).
Location
You must live in KL - Office based, 5 days a week.
Happy to relocate Malaysians from Singapore/HK, etc.
