Job summary

Dell Technologies in Penang, Malaysia seeks a Principal Engineer, Solution Architect (Rack Engineer) to design, build, validate and release data center racks for customer deployments.

You will collaborate with Pre-Sales, Customer teams, Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Validation to deliver racks right first time, covering layout, cabling, power, cooling, serviceability and documentation. Strong rack design experience and deep hardware knowledge are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• 8–10 years of proven server rack design experience.
• Advanced Excel knowledge for macro and formula-driven automation.
• Ability to write and analyze requirements, functional specs, design specs, test plans and other technical docs.
• Advanced knowledge of server and storage hardware.

Responsibilities

• Create rack layouts for servers, storage, network switches, power distribution units, rails, blanking panels, and cable management.
• Review rack power requirements, grounding, load distribution, and A and B feed redundancy.
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Provide technical input to Program Management and Procurement on component lead times, substitutions, and approved alternatives.
• Review build quality and confirm release readiness.

As a Rack Engineer, you will design, build, validate, and release data center racks for customer deployment. You will support the rack design and build readiness across physical layout, cabling, power, cooling, serviceability, and documentation. You will work with Pre-Sales, Customer teams, Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Validation Engineering, suppliers, and field teams to deliver racks right first time.

Essential Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, computer science, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of proven experience in server rack design, configuration, and maintenance within data center environments.
• Advanced Excel knowledge and skills that allow for customization of template macro and formula driven automations.
• Ability to write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and other technical documentation.
• Advanced knowledge of server and storage hardware systems.

Desirable Requirements

• Strong ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, tasks and changing priorities.
• Working independently under aggressive timelines.
