Job summary

Swiss Re in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Principal Auditor to provide independent assurance over APAC's significant risks. You will work with APAC Audit Director and peers to deliver risk-based audits, contribute to regional risk assessment and strengthen governance and controls.

You will engage with senior executives across Asia Pacific, assess complex processes, develop practical recommendations and broaden understanding of Swiss Re's global business. Strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• University degree in Actuarial Science, Accounting, Business or Finance.
• Professional certification (CPA, CA, CIA or CISA) preferred.
• At least 5 years external and/or internal audit experience.
• Experience with (re)insurance clients or organisations beneficial.
• Actuarial background or exposure to actuarial processes preferred.
• Strong knowledge of internal audit methodologies for the (re)insurance industry.
• Good understanding of regulatory requirements in Asia.

Group Internal Audit provides independent and objective assurance that assists the Board of Directors and Group Executive Committee to protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of the organization. About the role

As a Principal Auditor, you will provide independent assurance over Swiss Re's most significant risks across Asia Pacific. Working closely with the APAC Audit Director, Audit Managers and peers, you will deliver risk-based audits, contribute to regional risk assessment, and provide insights that strengthen governance, risk management and controls.

This role offers the opportunity to work on audit themes with organisational impact while gaining exposure to senior executives, regional leadership and cross-functional stakeholders across Asia Pacific. You will assess complex business processes, risks and controls, develop practical recommendations, and broaden your understanding of Swiss Re's global business.

Relevant work experience, sound judgement, the ability to analyse complex issues, collaborative working style, and concise written and verbal communication are key capabilities for this position. Your engagement and ability to negotiate effective solutions will make a difference.

Main Responsibilities

• Own assigned audit tasks and contribute to the end-to-end audit process, including planning, scoping, fieldwork and reporting.


• Contribute to continuous risk assessment by analysing emerging risks, business developments and control issues to inform risk-based audit planning.


• Apply domain expertise (e.g. actuarial, finance, underwriting) to assess complex risk areas and provide meaningful insights during audits.


• Contribute to high-quality audit reports, offering clear, evidence-based insights to senior management and stakeholders.


• Demonstrate strong knowledge of GIA methodology and apply it consistently across audits.


• Support Audit Managers and the APAC Audit Director in preparing materials for Committees, Executive Board meetings and regulatory reporting as required.


• Work with Audit Managers to build constructive stakeholder relationships, particularly with the first and second lines of defence, to identify potential red flags and emerging risks, and ensure control issues are managed or mitigated.


• Participate in strategic GIA initiatives and take ownership for timely delivery of assigned objectives.


• Leverage data analytics and emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance risk assessment, audit execution and insight generation.

About You

Education and experience:

• University degree in Actuarial Science, Accounting, Business or Finance.


• Professional certification in either CPA, CA, CIA or CISA preferred.


• At least 5 years of related work experience in external and/or internal audit.


• External audit experience (e.g. Big 4) with exposure to (re)insurance clients, or internal audit experience within an (re)insurance organisation.


• An actuarial background or hands‑on experience in actuarial processes within insurance or reinsurance (P&C or L&H) preferred. This includes experience in areas such as reserving, pricing, capital modelling, or IFRS 17-related actuarial processes.


• Strong awareness of internal audit methodologies and current/emerging issues for the (re)insurance industry, particularly within Asia.


• Good knowledge of (re)insurance (P&C and/or L&H), including governance, risks and controls. Experience in one or more technical domains such as actuarial, finance, underwriting, or risk management is preferred.


• Good understanding of regulatory requirements in Asia, particularly in key markets such as Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, Australia and Japan.


• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).


• Experience using data analytics tools (e.g. Power BI, SQL, Python or similar) to support risk assessment, scoping and testing is an advantage.


• Proficient in written and spoken English.
