Job Overview:

The Principal Accountant is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex accounting-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Accountant may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in the field of accounting. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in accounting as well as broad knowledge of the accounting discipline within the finance function.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills preferred
  • Good communication skills
  • Enjoy working in a changing and flexible environment
  • Good problem-solving skills

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Supervise Statutory and Tax Team – Asia Pacific, UK, African Entities
    • Lead the Stats and Tax team to complete stats audit for the respective entities in Asia Pacific, Australia, UK and Africa
    • Company financials are based on US GAAP. Based on the respective countries IFRS, need to rework financials for the local books audit
    • Liase with external auditors to complete the local statutory audits
    • Liase with Project accountants, FP&A, HR or payroll team on audit queries
    • Arrange for legal, directors and intercompany confirmations as requested by auditor
    • Prepare tax schedules (FA, Provisions, WHT) for Corporate Tax Return submission
    • Presentation of FS to APAC Controller to seek approval
    • Circulate final draft FS for corporate approval
    • Arrange to get the signed financials within the agreed timelines
  • Liase with Tax Consultant for the preparation and filing of WHT, VAT and Corporate Tax Returns
  • Prepare monthly & quarterly Tax Forecast & Tax Packs and booking of monthly entries for tax expense
  • Involved in preparing Overall Business Line quarterly forecast and Annual Budget and provide variance explanations on tax lines
  • Able to work as a team, with good inter-personal skills
