Job summary

STMicroelectronics in Malaysia invites an Automation Technician to join our plant. You will install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize automation equipment and control systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing.

This role involves working with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and related software; performing preventive and corrective maintenance; calibrating sensors; and collaborating with internal teams and external vendors to resolve issues.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Automation Technology, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of automation software and control systems, including PLCs and HMIs.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems; ability to read schematics/drawings.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve automation-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair automation equipment including mechanical, electrical, and software issues.

YOUR ROLE

The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation equipment and control systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This role includes working with mechanical, electrical, and software-related systems to ensure optimal equipment performance and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

Install, configure, and optimize automation equipment and control systems.

  • Troubleshoot and repair issues related to automation equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and software malfunctions.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automated equipment to avoid breakdowns and maintain performance.
  • Program and configure automation devices, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), robotic systems, and other control platforms.
  • Update software and firmware as required to improve system functionality and support new manufacturing requirements.
  • Test automated systems to ensure proper operation, efficiency, and compliance with performance standards.
  • Calibrate sensors, actuators, and related components to ensure accurate measurements and reliable operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, system performance, downtime, and incidents.
  • Provide periodic updates on system efficiency, downtime, and technical issues encountered.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to support troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical and software-related issues.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Diploma in Automation Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of automation software and control systems, including PLCs and HMIs.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, including the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve automation-related issues effectively.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with automation, operations, DIT, and vendor teams.
