Job summary

Nexus EC in Penang, Malaysia is seeking a Resident Engineer for infrastructure and water projects. The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, 10+ years in construction supervision, and a P.Eng designation.

You will lead site activities, review method statements, ensure QA/QC, and liaise with clients and authorities. On-site, full-time in Penang, you will coordinate meetings, manage pipe installation and testing, enforce safety protocols, and review temporary works.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in construction supervision.
• Proven experience as Resident Engineer for infrastructure or water projects.
• Familiar with Malaysian standards, authority requirements, and contract conditions.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and report writing abilities.
• Willing to be based full-time on site in Penang.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Ir.) with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).

Responsibilities

• Ensure the project progress is on time and well coordinated.
• Review the Method of Statement, Material Approvals and other project correspondence and respond to contractor on a timely manner.
• Ensure project quality assurance and perform quality control on site.
• Organise monthly progress meetings and technical meetings when required.
• Communicate with client, local authorities and private entities involved and plan solutions for arising matters.
• Inspect, supervise, quality control, organise and manage the installation of pipes.
• The pipe works include testing of each pipe jointing and section upon completion of each segment.
• Review and approve backfill material criteria.
• Inspect all temporary works such as cofferdam, shoring, dewatering, Traffic Management Plan and ESCP components for compliance.
• Enforce pipeline safety protocols including trench safety, confined space entry, and handling of hazardous materials per OSHA or local standards.
