A leading medical device company in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Patent Attorney to lead patent strategy and innovation in AI workflows. A fantastic opportunity for a Patent Attorney to work in Cochlear Malaysia. In this role, you will leverage specialist knowledge to help implementation and refinement of patent acquisition and generation strategies for Cochlear’s world-leading medical devices. This aspect of the role requires direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders worldwide, including Australia, Europe and the USA. You will also support Cochlear's IP department by developing and managing AI patenting tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Globally prosecute patent applications (exposure to US, EU, China market is ideal to have).
Conduct prior-art searches and provide patentability or freedom-to-operate analyses.
Develop and refine AI prompts and agents to draft claims, summarize inventions, or classify technologies.
Lead invention disclosure sessions and strategically support the IP committee.
Collaborate with R&D engineers and manage outside counsel to drive IP strategy.
Key Requirements:
Possess at least 6–10 years of experience as a registered patent attorney, both in private practice and in-house.
Minimum technical background in bio-medical, electrical, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or physics.
Graduated in Bachelor of Law or equivalent courses (ideal to have).
Proven track record in global patent drafting, office actions, and filings.
Experience with AI tools or having high level curiosity to learn technology — prompt design and testing (no coding required).
Excellent English communication and stakeholder facilitation skills.
