Job description

Overview:

Assists in overseeing the safe and efficient operation of OSBL Production units (Utilities, and IETS – Industrial Effluent Treatment System) during assigned shifts. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, this role involves supporting the coordination of operational activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and environmental regulations, and providing leadership to a team of operators and technicians.
• The Assistant Shift Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence and fostering a culture of safety within the production unit.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Shift Management: Assist the shift team lead and also serve as Lead DCS operator in managing operations during assigned shifts, including startup, shutdown, and normal operation of process units. Monitor process parameters, equipment performance, and operating conditions to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Team Leadership: Support the Shift Team Lead in leading and motivating a team of operators and technicians, providing guidance, coaching, and support as needed. Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor performance to ensure that operational objectives are met.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies during all OSBL operations. Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety inspections to promote a culture of safety among shift personnel.
  • Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency response activities, including alarms, incidents, and process upsets, in accordance with established procedures. Take prompt and decisive action to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and the environment.
  • Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to optimize process efficiency, improve product quality, and reduce operating costs during shift operations. Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to implement process improvements and reliability enhancements.
  • Training and Development: Assist in providing training and development opportunities for shift personnel to enhance technical skills, job proficiency, and safety awareness. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the shift team.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including other shift supervisors, operations management, maintenance personnel, and support staff. Provide updates on shift activities, issues, and performance metrics to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Documentation: Assist in maintaining accurate records of shift activities, including shift logs, production reports, maintenance work orders, and incident reports. Complete required paperwork and electronic forms in a timely and accurate manner.

Job Requirements:

  • Diploma/Advanced Diploma is preferred with more than 7 years' experience in Utilities & IETS within refinery/petrochemical/chemical or related industry; including proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Or Min. SPM/SVM/SKM or equivalent and above with more than 10 years experiences in the same context
  • Minium Steam Driver/Boilerman Grade 1; Steam Engineer Grade 2 (or 1) would be an added advantage
  • Strong understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations. Leadership qualities such as integrity, resilience, and adaptability
  • Strong understanding of Utilities & IETS within refinery/petrochemical/oleochemical plan processes, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve operational excellence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of process control systems, instrumentation, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software applications.
