Job summary

WD Media (Malaysia) Sdn, Bayan Lepas, Penang, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform advanced analytical testing using GCMS, FTIR and LCMS. You will analyze instrument data, troubleshoot abnormalities, and ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards.

The role supports shift-based operations, maintains PM logs, and contributes to method development and validation while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Fluency in basic English and own transportation are preferred.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science.
• Familiar with Microsoft Windows, Office applications.
• Shift pattern: 12 hours with day or night cycles.
• Able to communicate in basic English.
• Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail.
• Team player and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Own transportation to commute to work.

Responsibilities

• Execute routine contamination analysis testing on GCMS, FTIR, LCMS.
• Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and update logs.
• Prepare and verify calibration standards; evaluate pass/fail criteria.
• Identify and troubleshoot instrument abnormalities; implement corrective actions.
• Document findings with chromatograms, spectral data, and control charts.
• Support shift-based laboratory operations.
• Adhere to chemical safety protocols (SDS/MSDS) and emergency procedures.
• Communicate data validity and equipment status with cross-functional teams.
• Suggest digital/procedural enhancements and contribute to method development and validation.

Job Description

Perform advanced analytical testing and data interpretation using GCMS, FTIR, and/or LCMS instrumentation. Analyze instrument data, troubleshoot equipment abnormalities, and elevate out-of-tolerance conditions to management with supporting evidence and corrective action recommendations, ensuring compliance with laboratory quality standards. Acts as the technical resource for day-to-day laboratory operations and supports issue resolution through established procedures.

Regular Responsibilities

• Execute routine contamination analysis testing on assigned analytical platforms (GCMS, FTIR, LCMS)
• Maintain preventive maintenance (PM) schedules; update PM checklists and equipment logs
• Prepare and verify calibration standards; evaluate check standard pass/fail criteria
• Identify and troubleshoot instrument abnormalities, machine faults, and performance degradation, implement corrective actions to restore normal instrument operation.
• Document findings with supporting evidence (chromatograms, spectral data, control charts)
• Support shift-based laboratory operations
• Adhere to chemical laboratory safety, SDS/MSDS protocols, and emergency response procedures
• Communicate clearly with cross-functional teams on data validity and equipment status
• Identify process pain points and propose digital/procedural enhancements
• Contribute to method development and validation activities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze instrument data and investigate out-of-tolerance conditions. Identify and troubleshoot instrument abnormalities, implement corrective actions and elevate recurring issues to management with technical justification. Escalate unresolved OOC/OOS conditions to management with trend analysis and recommended actions.
