Job summary

Celestica in Bayan Lepas, Penang, seeks an Operations Engineering Specialist to support core commodity engineering workflows and lead digital automation initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics/Mechanical/Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • 5–8 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or technical supply chain

  • Strong Python scripting and software workflow skills
  • Translate complex requirements into automation tools

Responsibilities

  • Support commodity engineering workflows including GD&T checks and PPAP/FAI.
  • Translate mechanical and quality requirements into logic for automated tools.
  • Oversee testing, validation, and deployment of internal software tools and AI workflows.
  • Design and conduct UAT on AI agents across engineering datasets.
  • Provide technical guidance to software interns and maintain documentation.

Summary

In this role, you will support core commodity engineering workflows while leading digital automation initiatives. In this role, you will assist with day-to-day technical operations—such as drawing reviews, GD&T verification, and quality compliance (PPAP)—while serving as the technical bridge between engineering teams and software developers. The ideal candidate blends a mechanical/mechatronics foundation with practical scripting capabilities to translate complex engineering rules into functional AI and automation tools.

Detailed Description
  • Commodity Engineering Support: Assist with day-to-day engineering and supplier quality workflows, including standard blueprint reviews, GD&T checks, DFM analysis, and documentation reviews (PPAP, FAI).
  • Technical Oversight & Translation: Serve as the primary bridge between commodity teams and software developers by converting complex mechanical, quality, and supply chain requirements into clear logic for automated tools.
  • Tool Deployment & Validation: Oversee the testing, validation (UAT), and deployment of internal software tools, Python scripts, and enterprise AI workflows across engineering teams.
  • System Testing & Validation: Design and conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) on newly deployed AI agents to verify functional accuracy, reliability, and repeatability across engineering datasets.
  • Intern Supervision & Architecture: Provide technical guidance, code review, and project coordination for a dedicated team of software interns building custom automation solutions.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain clear documentation, tool repositories, and revision histories to ensure long‑term sustainability and smooth continuity across intern cohorts.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
  • Software Literacy & Scripting: Proficiency in Python and basic software workflows; ability to write, debug, and evaluate code for data processing and API integrations.
  • Digital Tools & Automation: Familiarity with standard software development practices (version control, revision tracking via Git) and enterprise AI capabilities (e.g., Gemini, LLM APIs).
  • Engineering Domain Knowledge: Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, technical drawings, GD&T, material specs, and standard quality frameworks (DFM, PPAP, FMEA).
  • Problem Solving & Supervision: Strong analytical skills with the ability to coordinate junior developers, prioritize project backlogs, and translate user feedback into tool enhancements.
  • Travel: Willingness and ability to travel internationally as required by project needs.
Typical Experience
  • Experience: 5–8 years of working experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical supply chain environment, with demonstrated involvement in scripting or software automation projects.
